It was an interesting job, I learned a lot.

(3,622 posts)Having come from the SF Bay Area around 1998-9, I was shocked to find that the pay was as low as it was. I think it was around or under $10.00/hour. Mind you, I'm in IT and was used to making a bit more money than that. Keep in mind that this was for doing work like setting up their new (very expensive) computer/graphics/overlay systems at television stations.
The other thing that kind of blew me away is that they had 80 meteorologist, and I think around 800 employees. There was only one black person, one Indian person, and the rest were all very white.
Again, coming from the Bay Area, this was kind of a shock to me.
The big joke around the place was that several years back, there had been a severe Noreastern storm that they failed to forecast its path properly, and it actually hit dead on in State College, PA (where Accuweather is located)
