Didn't a small number of people vote for Santorum in his "surge"

forget the percents and the point spreads, in terms of actual ballots cast it look to me like a few religious nuts in went to the polls as instructed by their small town pastors and cast fewer total votes than Newt got in JUST South Carolina.

Even with lower turn out numbers Romney's percent fell even lower.

There were some caucuses in Minnesota where he didn't pick up a single vote.

The most telling thing that the polls are showing is that there has been a sea change in Romney's favorability.

Gingrich's favorability is also down.

The only option for Mitt is to bring Santorum down.

Part of the reason for Santorum's surge is his own high level of popularity. 64% of voters see him favorably to only 22% with a negative one. But the other, and maybe more important, reason is that Republicans are significantly souring on both Romney and Gingrich. Romney's favorability is barely above water at 44/43, representing a 23 point net decline from our December national poll when he was +24 (55/31).
