If Gingrich really despises Romney and really wants Romney to lose,

he needs to drop out and endorse Santorum.

In the next few contests, Romney is now leading only in Arizona. In Arizona, he is only about 6 points ahead of Little Ricky, with Gingrich pulling around 12%.

After that, Santorum is holding a steady lead in Romney's home state, Michigan and solidly leading in Ohio, close to 20 points! Gingrich still holds a lead in his home state, Georgia, but is about 9 points shy of the needed 50+% to trigger the winner take all threshold. Santorum and Romney are tied behind Gingrich there.

Gingrich can't come back. There is really no path for him to regain any kind of momentum or any states, other than GA that he is likely to pick up now. If he is in it for the vendetta against Romney, the best thing he can do is throw his weight into Santorum. If Romney loses Arizona, Michigan and Ohio, it will almost assuredly set up a fight to (and through) the convention.

The republican party is splitting down the middle. The rich boys club on one side and the religious radicals on the other. It is a beauty to behold.

Newt would line up with Frothy the Snowjobman before he'd even think of supporting Romney

I'm not sure if he is capable of comming to the revalation that he is out of it. You look at his history, there is no way he should have considered himself a viable candidate for the general in the first place.

Maybe he doesn't consider himself a viable candidate. Perhaps he is self-aware enough to know that he has no chance as the front-runner....

...But at a fractured convention, suddenly having a cache of delegates bound to him for the first ballot or three makes him a very, very attractive running mate. One or more of the other candidates would be practically forced to make him that offer in order to lock it down.

And then Newt Gingrich would have only two Presidents in between him and what he wants.

Yes, I really do think he is that evil.

while Newt in fact does despise Romney...H he also believes Santorum is an idiot. Add that to the fact that Gingrich is the ultimate "take his ball & go home, kinda guy. Plus...for him to convince the conservatives they were wrong...he needs Romney ti lose in November, & lose large. And The Newt Stands Alone! ...and nooooot has one of the biggest ever made. This race has become personal...with Millard, Rectorum...the "media"...you name it, he's currently at war with it. Nooooot sees his legacy here...his moment to grab that brass ring he's long felt he's deserved. For his entire life he's lived in his own bubble of infalibility and anyone who dares to question it is a liar or worse. Yep, it's that personal. Add to this the availability of Adelson's blood money...without it noooot's ego trip would have ended on some Iowa backroad.

The game now is to get the most delegates at the convention. As long as Frothy and Paul keep Millard from the needed number of delegates, nooooot once again becomes a party broker...his endorsement means even more ego stroking. As long as Adelson keeps throwing money at him, noooot's not gonna face reality...he's never had to.
