Related: About this forumI think November is a lock on the WH. I want the House
AND I want the damn supermajority in the Senate...Is that too much to ask?

(31,182 posts)In Ohio, the dems have had a hard time recruiting candidates for Congress because the district borders were "in flux".

(10,857 posts)But don't feel too bad about it. The 2012 Senate elections are going to be very difficult for the Dems to make gains because they have already succeeded in controlling a near-supermajority of that class.
One-third of the Senate is elected every two years, and this particular class is already controlled by the Democrats, 23-10.
That's good, except that it is a near impossibility to defend all of the seats we control and pick up ten of the safest Republican seats they have left.
Even if we bagged them all, we would still be four votes short of the 67 votes in the Senate that would effectively guarantee the impeachment of Clarence Thomas.
For that we will have to wait until 2014.

(22,000 posts)I'd go for Scalia as well. They are both scumbags.

(10,857 posts)....And Scalia is obviously the one who does the heavy lifting in that little partnership. So should we ever actually reach 67 votes in the Senate and control of the House, I fully expect both of them to retire to the speaking circuit pretty much on the day it happens, on the assumption that any true investigation of Thomas will reveal some sort of criminal relationship between him, his benefactors, and Scalia.
For the moment, though, it's Thomas who is caught red-handed and merely drawing a check until the political winds change enough for him to have to leave. I am assuming it is his prior criminal behavior which prevents him from leaving now, and surrendering some of the protection he enjoys as a Justice.

(19,537 posts)So hopefully we can finally get some long needed changes happening, or at least challenge any remaining "do nothing" Democrats to ante up then and not make any more excuses for holding back!

(5,609 posts)but I wouldn't put a lock on it just yet. It's a political aeon until the election in November and anything can happen between now and then.

(354 posts)With the insanity of the GOP grasping at any straw they can just to score electorate points, rather than work on the the real issues at hand, just shows how desperate the GOP is to win this cycle.

(115,985 posts)It isn't over until it's over - remember, the GOPers have more money, and they are doing their best to make it hard for people (Democrats, that is) to vote. It's one thing to be optimistic, but we can't relax for a minute. They will screw us if they possibly can. Always assume you are behind and trying to catch up...

(47,803 posts)We all get so obsessed over the top spot elections. But ultimately, what will have the greatest impact, regardless of which is in the White House, is whether there is a decent Congress or not.

(146,351 posts)district. Sign up and volunteer for your local and state legislative candidates. Help them win with huge margins. And don't forget your state legislators and local government leaders. The larger the margin, the better for us all.
It's not too much to ask. You can help!
