2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders holds press conference in Washington, D.C (5-1-16)
This is an outstanding example of a strong leader.
He goes over numbers, delegates, and how he is stronger in all polls, and every state, with respect to Clinton. This is the information superdelegates need to hear.

(2,479 posts)This has been clear and consistent throughout the primary season. In states that allow independents to vote, he does better than she does. This is the reason he does better against Trump and other Republican candidates.
I think it would be a lot smarter to go into the general election with a candidate who does well with independents (who make up 42% of the eligible voters) than to go with one who does poorly with independents.
Dem candidates win Dem votes, Rep candidates win Rep votes. The decisive factor in the general is who gets the independent vote. Bernie does, Hillary doesn't. It is not rocket science, it's very straightforward.
The independent vote today, IMHO, can be better understood as anti-establishment (and hence not wanting to be associated with either established party) than as a sort of "middle-of-the-road" group which is between left and right. I say this because independents are supporting Bernie, which makes me think that they are, in large measure, more anti-establishment than centrist.
Long story short, the poll numbers are highlighting a very strong and important factor, namely the independents. And that reality is not likely to fade away any time soon!

(21,328 posts)Both of them have greatly inflated numbers due to relative lack of exposure.

(2,479 posts)Have you seen Kasich on a lot of talk shows? Is he regularly parodied by comics? Do most people know where he lives and make fun of how he says "yuuge"?
I don't think the "lack of exposure" argument really holds water in the case of Bernie Sanders, honestly.
And, although I'm sure many people consider his positions absurd, I think many more, including myself, millions of voters, and practically everyone who lives in developed countries other than the United States consider Sanders' positions to be basic common sense, just as we in this country overwhelmingly thought back in FDR's time.

(4,407 posts)... the lower her numbers drop. DWS knew that would happen too, which is why there were originally only 6 debates.

They'll make a stink about him not bowing down and going after Supers. But the truth is he's just showing leadership with conviction and integrity. They won't get that though ... how could they when they see Hillary as a world leader?

(10,478 posts)So after months of complaining about the unfairness of the superdelegate system, you now want them to vote for him regardless of who secures the most pledged delegates heading into the convention?
