2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumDear DNC: I am not a Democrat.
I voted for Bernie in the WA state caucus. I just got my survey and fundraising papers in the mail from the DNC asking me for money, even has my DNC membership number on it. Well DNC, I am not a Democrat and if you are just expecting my vote in November you may be sadly mistaken. So, you can try and claim me as one of your own if you like, but you won't see a cent from me and it will not influence my vote.

(7,231 posts)are you mistaken about the TOS? Would you like a purity test and loyalty oath at the site's gates?

(7,231 posts)Because that is just a perversion!

(43,873 posts)Especially since the author of the TOS actually works / has worked in that system.
Betty Karlson
(7,231 posts)But that, like your attempted rebuttals, is beside the point.
The point is that DU is a forum for progressive voices, and that all progressive voices are certainly welcome while there is no nominee. And no amount of Hill-bully presumption will change that until there has been a party convention - which is in July.
wyldwolf
(43,873 posts)Betty Karlson
(7,231 posts)Maybe you ought to mention qualifications, and "real Democrats" too, while you are at it.
The TOS are clear: as long as there is no nominee, all progressive voices are welcome. Because while we have no nominee, we have primaries. Which are about drawing people IN, not shutting people OUT, as the purity and loyalty oath crowd (a.k.a. Hill-bullies) would have us believe.

(4,176 posts)I dont blame the site owners, this hatred of Hillary, created by 25 years of GOP propaganda, has many people in a rage.
I hear people on radio shows and here who have no idea about what is real and not real, but they hear the repeated attacks of Hillary day in and day out and so of course, they are influenced.
But the coup de grace, the awesome accomplishment is convincing people that NOW, all of a sudden, Hillary MUST measure up to a level that NO politician can (other than Bernie) and that if she doesnt, you cant vote for her.
It is BRILLIANT
deadly, of course, many are going to die when Trump takes over or Cruz, but it is brilliant

(12,081 posts)form at the caucus that by voting in the Democratic primary you consider yourself a Democrat. Well, WA has an open caucus which means Independents can vote in the caucus and not matter what the form says, I do not have to consider myself to be member to any party to vote.

Topics/questions covered (not complete):
POLICY PRIORITIES
Q: Do you support President Obama taking action on issues that Republicans refuse to bring to a vote, such as immigration and common sense gun control?
A: Not sure. Im uncertain why this question needs to be asked by the DNC.
Q: Do you support Democratic initiatives to reduce carbon pollution and take other urgent action to combat climate change?
A: Not sure. I, just, you knowcant find a way to start processing this question. As a United States citizen, from the state of Michigan, who voted for President Barack Obama in both 2008 and 2012, I just dont know whether he should do this. I need help figuring this out. Oh, and what exactly would those Democratic initiatives be?
Q: Do you support President Obamas proposed plan to provide a community college education to any American who is willing to work for it?
A: Not sure. I voted the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination to Bernie Sanders. I have no idea at all how I feel about a topic like this.
THE 2016 ELECTIONS
Q: How important is it to regain Democratic majorities in Congress and put another Democrat in the Oval Office?
A: Not sure. Hasnt the Republican Party done a marvelous job in the U.S. House of Representatives? And who would ever want to not tune in C-Span 2every day that is possibleto catch the honorable majority leader Mitch McConnell lead his noble Republicans in the U.S. Senate? And this has me so confusedwhen it comes to the Oval Office, and a Democrat, what breed of Democrat?
Q: How should the DNC react when Republicans and their special-interest backers target Democrats with lies and personal attacks?
A: Not sure. Maybe DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz has a method to all this madness. How is Debbie lately with those Payday Loans? And is she still toying with Elizabeth Warren? Do tell.
Q: What do you think is the most dangerous part of Donald Trump being the GOP nominee for president in 2016?
A: Hillary Clinton, rather than Bernie Sanders, being the Democratic nominee for president in 2016.
COMMENTS
Please briefly share any additional thoughts or suggestions on defending our Democratic accomplishments, moving President Obamas progressive agenda forward, or winning a decisive Democratic victory in the 2016 elections.
A: Okay. My suggestion is this: Say good-bye to New Democrat. Bring back New Deal. And nominate for prominent officesespecially U.S. President and U.S. Senateextreme left-wing candidates who do things radical, like make wealthy individuals and corporations pay at least 70 percent of their income; tax churches; deliver on single payer; have re-importation of prescription drugs; legalize marijuana, recreational along with medicinal, throughout the United States; bans, nationwide, discrimination in any form (like housing and employment) against LGBT persons; elimination of the Patriot Act; reduction of the overall United States military budget by at least 50 percent; pass an amendment to the Constitution of the United States which eliminates Citizens United; eliminate protections against gun manufacturers having legal protections from lawsuits brought against them; raise federal minimum wage to $22 per hour; a mandatory minimum of six weeks vacation for all private and public employees; and

(80,708 posts)I refuse to donate to an organization run by someone who votes to put sick people in prison for using medical marijuana.
Cant do it.
I will donate to my state democratic party and local leaders, because they actually LEAD.

(14,255 posts)She decides who will be supported if they run, down here, and she will let a Republican run unopposed rather than back a liberal. She also openly campaigns for her GOP cronies down here. Openly. And we are told good Democrats always vote for the D. No more of that from me.
Anyway, I will only contribute directly to a candidate. Finding out that the state organizations really only get to keep about 1% of monies that Hillary "raises for them", and they wash it right back to Hillary, is an eye-opener.
Did you know that Ms. Debbie, Woman of Principle, offered to change her stance on marijuana if John Morgan, the guy who is supporting the marijuana effort down here (it really helped his dad when his dad was dying), would just stop saying (true) things about her. Morgan declined. So Ms. Debbie's principled stance was pulled off the auction block and she went back to working with Rick Scott Actually, she has no principles, as far as I can see.

(80,708 posts)its head screwed on fairly right.

As for DWS, part of the runup to the whole John Morgan episode IIRC was that she had worked with Sheldon Adelson to defeat the medical mj iniativie, his 'Floridians to save us from teh drugs' or whatever the org is. Sheldon Adelson. Maybe it's me, but I don't particularly cotton to the idea of the DNC chair having that dude on speed dial. One of the reasons I'm one of the many "outsiders" supporting Tim Canova.
In addition to the cast of other winners lining up to try and stop medical marijuana in Florida (again!) you also have this guy:

At one facility in Yorba Linda, California, state investigators found that STRAIGHT Inc. subjected children to unusual punishment, infliction of pain, humiliation, intimidation, ridicule, coercion, threats, mental abuse and interference with daily living functions such as eating, sleeping and toileting. Samantha Monroe, who was placed into a STRAIGHT Inc clinic in Tampa at age 13, says she was locked in a room, and forced to wear a clothes stained with urine, feces and menstrual blooda punishment her counselors called humble pants.
Richard Bradbury, a former STRAIGHT patient and counselor-turned-whistleblower, told the St. Petersburg Times that Monroes experiences werent unique. It was pure child abuse, Bradbury told reporters. Torture.
In 1988, Fred Collins, an 18-year-old college student, paid a visit to his brother, who was in treatment for drug abuse, at an Orlando STRAIGHT Inc. clinic. Counselors accused Collins of being high on marijuana because his eyes were red, and held him against his will for months. The abduction, strip-searches and other abuses ended when Collins managed to escape. He was one of many to win judgments against the chain of drug rehab clinics before it was forced to close after investigations and lawsuits began to mount in several states.

If you wish to not vote against the Dems in November, that's your right, but why are you blaming the DNC when you wandered into their party, voted on who should represent them and gave your personal information to the guy who joined the party for money and attention?

(20,450 posts)People of Color were silenced. But this is a temporary phenomenon.
The administrators saw what was happening and disagreed with what the BSers were doing.
So you see, try as you might, but I will not be PERMANENTLY silenced simply because the BSers don't like how people vote.
I am a Democrat. A proud Democrat. I vote for the ***Democratic*** candidate of my choosing.
The sad thing about the BSers is that I once was leaning towards voting for Bernie Sanders, as I did not like Hillary Clinton. But the behavior demonstrated by BSers, as well as his own behavior and antics completely turned me off, and I proudly and enthusiastically cast my vote for Hillary Clinton in the recent Maryland primary, where she one by nearly 30 points.
Happy voting!

(14,040 posts)and participate here at Democratic Underground? I'm not trying to be "unwelcoming" but I really want to know, if you loathe the Democratic party so much maybe you shouldn't participate in the Democratic Primary. Otherwise quit your complaining about something you brought upon yourself by participating in the Democratic Primary.
Also, this whole "influence your vote" thing is ridiculous. It's the DNC's job to educate people about the Democratic Party and to fundraise--whether you like DWS or not. As stated by many and me already, you declared yourself a member of the party when you decided to support Bernie--another person who isn't a Democrat but decided to participate in the Democratic Primary.
