2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHaving to admit you were wrong really sucks but here goes:
I never should have voted for either Clinton in the past. Their betrayal of progressive values did immeasurable harm to the country.
I apologize for being snookered by them.

There is nothing pretend about the Supreme Court justices that Hillary will give us, including Merrick Garland. And there is nothing pretend about the assault on Roe vs. Wade.

The things you've been fed about Hillary by haters are not fact based and the Bernie's record isn't what you've been told either. That's the risk you run when you don't do your own homework and simply let partisans feed you stories.

The new documentary "The brainwashing of my Dad" really points this out.
A lot of unintended consequences of this Act.
I would hope that it is one of Bill Clintons major regrets.
TDale313
(7,820 posts)I supported him- voted for, volunteered. I got the chance to hear him speak at my school, and even shook his hand. Whatever that fabled "it" factor is, he had it in spades. I liked him, I liked Hillary. Through much of the 90's and into the 2000s I defended and admired them, flaws and all.
But time gives you perspective, and the consequences of many of the Clinton policies have been disastrous. Free trade, welfare reform, tough on crime legislation, repealing Glass Steegal- these had real lasting negative effects. And their basic philosophy of triangulation and pulling the party further and further right needs to be fought against tooth and nail.

The Clintons served a useful historical function in the sense that they blunted the force of that threat to the point where it's been pretty much rendered irrelevant.
But support for Clintonism on that basis alone obscured what they were doing ( and NOT doing) socially and economically.
In any case... their time is WAY passed. 40% plus of the DEM primary electorate realizes it and much of Trump's fan base is..... one hopes.... figuring it out. Or at least SEEMS to be.
Whatever else happens... this election cycle has seen the end of a particular brand of DEM Party politics.
Take a good look. It won't be back. It's an anachronism
Which is not to say that it MIGHT not be replaced by something even more horrendous. Just that it's time has passed.
