2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie is going to win Indiana.
It's an open primary so independents can vote. Good thing he didn't drop out.

(19,877 posts)Hillary can lose every state by less than 20% and still win.

(2,280 posts)The point is that Bernie is bringing up important issues that would otherwise be ignored.

(587 posts)He's not trying to bring up important issues. He's trying to win the nomination.
The "bringing up important issues" is just a narrative put forth by people who are trying to give themselves a reason not to accept that he's lost the nomination and is no longer a factor in the election.
Some of you folks think that he's going to get up at the convention and give an impassioned speech that will bring people to tears and cause his platform to be adopted by the winners. That's not going to happen. It has no way to happen - that's not what the convention is about. He's going to get up and give a speech where he supports Clinton. He might mention a couple of line items from his agenda, but he has zero power to set the platform or even sway it. Clinton doesn't need his delegates nor does she need to pander to his supporters. She's already beating Trump handily and she should keep doing what she's doing because it is working.

(3,687 posts)She can't - not with out the Indies. She only wins CLOSED PRimaries. THeir problem is that the Indies get to vote in the GE.
And they will not vote for her. Even over Trump.

(10,559 posts)we get to grow our party by showing independents that really, they WANT to be Democrats.
I was a Firm Independent who voted for the Democratic presidential candidate consistently until Obama made me realize I was actually a Proud Democrat. (And I was an Independent who volunteered for Kerry - lol!) I consider myself an "Obama Democrat" because he brought me into the fold by making sure I wasn't going to be humiliated by bad decision making (like Bill Clinton, who I defended regularly in the 90s). With Obama, I get to discuss policy instead of personality flaws.
I know he isn't perfect, but I am proud of him as both an American and a Democrat.
I feel the same way about Bernie. I could also have been good with Biden, Warren or O'Malley, but if Hillary gets the nod, I am switching back to Independent so fast, it will make your head spin -- I do not want to be affiliated with her brand of corruption and incompetence.
That's my take anyway.

(10,721 posts)Throughout the campaign, I've read post after post that takes reality and flips it on its head.
I certainly get why folks are frustrated with the Democratic Party, but it bothers me that so many have lost touch with reality.

(587 posts)The Sanderites think that their fringe group covers all independents.
It doesn't.
Here's a news flash... the people who are going to vote Clinton are going to do so anyway. The ones who aren't won't suddenly vote for her if she takes on one or two issues from Bernie's campaign. And she's not going to do that anyway - she has her own platform that has her winning the GE against Trump.
The BS'ers think their voting block will stay home on election day if BS isn't the nominee or HRC Doesn't take on BS's positions. That's not going to happen. Time to get with reality and accept that Bernie lost and most people in the country don't want him as President and don't want his platform adopted as that of the democratic party.
