2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEveryone knows the GOP will never allow Trump to be the nominee. Everyone knows
the reason Ryan accepted the speaker job was because he was promised a clean nomination for president. And he'll get it. I know this like I know death and taxes will always come.
I'm so sick of this bad reality show called Trump. We have a mega-horror show ahead called Ryan. Trump doesn't want to be president. He wants to be elected president. Once he got it, he'd turn it over to someone who wants the presidency.
OTOH, Ryan craves the presidency even more than Hillary (so you know that's a lot!). And he's more dangerous than Trump, because Ryan won't give up like Trump. Ryan will sign off on every theocratic bill generated, and there'll be so many we'll be calling ourselves New Afghanistan pretty soon. (We'll be as 12th century as Afghanistan, except we won't have all the U.S. military-protected poppy crops.)
You think DWS, for a NY minute, would let Bernie actually run as the nominee? That's how the GOP feels about Trump. The game is rigged, and we don't get to play in it. Whether Clinton or Ryan gets the presidency, who knows. It won't be my candidate, unless either death or taxes are off the table. In other words, a miracle will have to occur. Or a revolution.
on edit:
And don't say, Ryan said no. How many times did he say no before accepting the speakership? No just means "give me more."

(3,017 posts)He has 1053 delegates. He needs 1237 delegates to win the nomination. There are 514 delegates in remaining Republican primary states and the last two opponents to Trump dropped out this week. So Trump will have about 125% of the delegates he needs to win on the first ballot. The head of the RNC has said that Trump is their presumptive nominee.

Right now, their saying Trump is the nominee is providing big TV ratings. That's all.

(5,636 posts)The Trump supporters are the Reagan Democrats. If they don't turn out and vote, vote third party or even vote for the Democrat, who will the Republicans get to replace them? The Republicans are stuck with him, and recognize that he's not that bad a candidate -- he obviously knows how to win, just like Hillary.
