Related: About this forumABC News: What's Next in Clinton Email Investigation
"Late last week, sources confirmed the FBI had just finished interviewing a handful of former Secretary of State Hillary Clintons closest aides and advisers as part of an inquiry tied to her private email server, and that next it plans to ask Clinton herself for an interview, suggesting the review is nearing or entering its final stages.
Aside from defeating Donald Trump, it may be fair to say that this outstanding investigation about the handling of sensitive information on a private email server during her time at the State Department is the biggest obstacle on her path to the presidency. To clear that hurdle, the Justice Department must be convinced there was no criminal wrongdoing on her part."

(4,407 posts)As predictable as the sunrise.
But there's a really good reason for it: Hillary is running for president to enrich herself, through money directly or through the contacts che makes. She doesn't have a reason to run that we would care about other than breaking a glass ceiling. So of course, she's pushing that, and every time anyone brings up anything that isn't positive about her, SEXISM!!!11!!11!!11!
On the other hand, Bernie sees a serious problem as is running with the idea of at least approaching that problem and trying to do something about it. It makes a different that the extreme media bias and the DNC's fat ass on the scale could just barely overcome.

(24,979 posts)That's practically their middle name. They are a political police who have a history of fabricating fake "terrorism" cases and for a long time acted as the red squad disrupting left and black groups - right up to assassination, in the case of Fred Hampton.
Nevertheless, this case is not what you would expect them to pursue on political grounds unless Comey or someone is pushing it as a GOP loyalist. But let's be clear, they have rarely been the good guys.

(3,190 posts)Impartiality, but keep in mind that the Obama DoJ oversees the FBI and makes the decision whether to move forward or not on indictment and prosecution, so I think partisan shenanigans in this case are a very low probablility.

It's our Democratic frontrunner and her private, unsecure server that has been under investigation for a year.

Let me break something to you: what we have discussed on DU the GOP already has in their dossier of attacks they will launch at Hillary...nothing discussed here is new news for them.
What is a huge risk for the Democratic Party is if the FBI does recommend indictment. If it happens before the convention, it will throw the party into chaos. If it happens after the convention during the GE, Trump will win and down ticket Dems will suffer. If Hillary makes it to the WH and it happens, the GOP congress will launch impeachment faster than you can say impeachment.
I can't speak for others, but my point is that the reason I am interested in this extremely important issue is that I care about the Democratic Party, and this has the potential to damage it beyond words. Burying your head in the sand isn't going to make it go away.

(2,604 posts)I am a sixty two year old grandma who has voted for democrats since I registered to vote in 1973. I grew up with a lot of republicans and guess what? The majority are just people. Points of view I don't agree with, but our kids played together and somehow I never learned to see all republicans as monsters. Their party is super fucked up right now, but you know, it's what I see in both parties, if there is an R by their name, republicans vote for them because they've done it forever,no matter how crazy it's gotten.
I don't see republicans as enemies. I don't work for the GOP. I don't need your information.

(443 posts)FBI arrested a Mayor of Charlotte for corruption and they had him dead to rights on camera in a sting operation when he was a council member. That was in 2010 and it took them 3 years to finally finish the investigation. When dealing with a high profile case they triple check everything. It is not like if you get arrested as a poor person where you are tried and convicted on ride to the police station.

(24,411 posts)and the DOJ indicts--then President Trump is closer to becoming a reality. No Democrat wants that or is "hoping" for that. Yes, there is plenty of disdain for Clinton's policies in our Democratic Party. However no one envisioned this nightmare.
If Clinton was indicted, it would throw our primary into a tailspin. This would be our generation's Watergate dropped like a bomb into our political primary and impending Democratic Convention. Clinton would drop out and she would not release her delegates to Bernie.
If this happens, our party is going to need the Convention Fairy, the Party-Unity Fairy and a whole lot of Democrats working with party leaders to mitigate a political disaster.
Maybe we can all, as good Democrats--hope that this is resolved soon--and stay our best to keep informed without mocking people who are taking this seriously!

(13,877 posts)And since those last two descriptives go together, we might consider the well-known dossiers they have on nearly everyone in Washington. Further, I think that's why no other Democrat challenged her early on.
Have you seen photos of their Five Mansions? I have, and each one is probably worth more than most of us make in 10-15 or more years.
They thrive on skirting the law and profiting from it. The Foundation, I believe, took it into the Pay to Play category. That's on paper...follow the money and all.
The Democrats are just behind on the "throw out the bums" rally cry. Trump is just an insufferable asshole...50% of the Republicans love it. HRC, OTOH, is more nuanced and shifty with name recognition so it will take some Come to Jesus moments for the faithful Third Way and/or the "don't give a shit" Democrats to get rid of her.

(36,988 posts)Hillary Clinton is under investigation. The intensive FBI probe has expanded to include potential obstruction of justice if any sensitive email has been withheld or destroyed. Also under FBI investigation, are gifts and payments received by Hillary on behalf of the Clinton Foundation. Other charges could also come out as the probe broadens.
Hillary Clinton, while under investigation by the FBI, must be treated with impartiality and held accountable for any wrongdoing. James Conway, Managing Director of Global Intel Strategies and former FBI agent, told RT the FBI will continue to go after her regardless of her government position until they are satisfied the investigation is complete. Mr. Conway is confident in the impartiality of the agency.
It is immaterial whether it is the First Lady, or it is the lady down the street, or it is the mayor of a city it doesnt matter. The FBI has a long history of enforcing the law. And sometimes people who are subjects of those investigations happen to be high-level political officials. So, it has happened a number of times.

(3,190 posts)think it's okay to squelch and shutdown discussion on a very real issue that could do incredible damage to the Democratic Party. This is not just a RW dreamed-up scandal. It only takes a little bit of research to realize that what Hillary did potentially violated a number of laws (security, FOIA, obstruction of justice, to name a few).
So, my question to many Hillary supporters on DU who want to shutdown discussion of the FBI investigation: Do you care more about the Democratic Party or Hillary?
COLGATE4
(14,732 posts)at all. There is an ongoing investigation. No one posting on these boards has any more information on what's happening with it than anyone else, that is to say nothing. So all this breast beating about the downfall of the Democratic party is, IMO, just that - breast beating. I will wait for the results of the investigation. IMO (and only IMO) I do not believe she will be indicted for anything and the whole investigation will go the way of Ben Gawzi, Vince Foster, Travelgate, etc. etc. ad infinitum. And in that case I look forward to helping elect her President.

(13,877 posts)back a couple of months ago. Her donor chest, or lack of, indicates that misjudgement as well.
So now, the investigators, the Republicans, the voters et al have to adjust to the fact that not only is this not going away, it is intensifying...to the Clinton Foundation Pay to Play which is far, far more difficult for any of these "Fairies" to wave away.
This has gone beyond the Watergate misdeeds...those were child's play compared to these. However, like Watergate, it will be the coverup that will damn it in the end. Either way, I can not find a way to a conclusion that does not severely damage the Democratic Party.

(11,833 posts)I'm wondering if history is any guide. In the sense that presuming everything is cleared up to the satisfaction of the FBI and the Justice Department, how long it may take to close out the matter. Based on past history. It just seems pretty unfair and ridiculous to have something like this hang over the head of someone indefinitely, considering that in this country everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
