NYT: Vicious Bernie Supporters Threaten Grandchild of Nevada Dem State Chair

Threats to children for political purposes are unacceptable and Bernie Sanders should condemn these horrible actions immediately.
From the NY Times:
Thrown chairs. Leaked cellphone numbers. Death threats spewed across the Internet. No, this is not the work of Donald J. Trump supporters, some of whom have harassed critics of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. It was angry supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders who were directing their ire at the Nevada Democratic Party and its chairwoman, Roberta Lange over a state convention on Saturday that they think was emblematic of a rigged political system.
Heres Jamil Smith, a respected commentator and senior correspondent at MTV News:.....

(15,512 posts)From the complaint lodged by the NV Democratic Party:
To the great embarrassment and revulsion of the vast majority of attendees, Sanders delegates crowded the dais and shouted down universally-respected U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer of California, who had arrived as a guest of the party to deliver a keynote address in support of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The Sanders Campaign spent its time either ignoring or profiting from the chaos it did much to create and nothing to diminish or mitigate.

(978 posts)It's quite telling how you RW CORPdems focus on the reactions to the rigged system you are a part of, thinking that p0arty loyalty is the same as being a minion of one of the most corrupt politicians with blood on their hands like Hilary has.
You whine about the rightful anger your and your side has spent 9 months inciting w3ith your smear campaigns, alienating have the gutterbal to demand party unity after the sleaziest campaigns I have ever witnessed coming from an alleged democrat like Hillary.
Your side claims to be progressives, but talks of free college and universal heathcare as "free stuff" while defending the alleged free money your candidate takes from entities who wrecked the economy.
And when you repeat the lies of Bernie supporters being racist (must include PoC who aso supports Bernie), sexists and now violent.
And it seems that your side has taken after Hillary and her friend/enemy list. You seek to alienate the people you need for the GE and seek to punish the same after your side has been exposed as deeply corrupt, having rigged the system from the start. Where every irregularity during the primaries have hurt Bernie and helped Hillary. Anmd your side dismiss it. Displaying faux outrage at the LEGIT outrage over your sides disgusting behavior.
Your words will not be forgotten by real progressives when we see Hilllary pander to church going gun nuts rather than to the Bernie supporters her surrogates have smeared in November (taken that her scam has worked al the way, including the FBI investigation and the Wall Street transcripts, Which she can show now by the way. There are no other candidate who have given speeches to Wall Street for 225 000 a gig left in the race).
Your side must think that only CORPdems and suckers (people voting against their own intererest for some cheap pandering) are the only legit voters, while millions of disenfranchised voters and independents of all stripes can be dismissed in the demand to uphold the two party paradigm.
And don't give us any false illusions that she or her husband have done a single good thing for minorities. The labeled back kids super predators, thinkinbg obviously that corporations and tax evadors who game the system are mode citizens while kids in poor areas are thugs. That at the same time stripping the same communities for funds that could HELP the community. Instead they were given a bootstrap and longer prison sentences without getting their voter rights restored.
Hillary is the one saying that refugee kids be sent back to the countries with death squads and the war on drugs that Reagan rekindled in the 80s. She is more willing to bomb other countries than take care of the refugees her bombs have created.
Bill and Hillary have destroyed an entire generation of PoC with their dog whistle politics. And still Hilary can claim the right to the votes of the same people her policies have suppressed.
It's like the republican voter. They vote for corporate tax breaks just because they hate gays. If Hilary was so pro GLBT, she woudn't take money from rulers in a country that kills them like Saudi Arabia. If she was so pro-women's rights, she would be pro.choice al the way up to the end of a pregnancy. She would support women's rights around the world rather than pander to regimes that suppresses them and kills them.
So much for democratic, progresssive principles.

(57,936 posts)The Nevada Party completely mishandled the convention organization.
You do not take a voice vote when you know that the sides on a question are nearly equal in number.
You do not try to silence dissent at a political convention in a democracy.
The Nevada convention was poorly organized and on purpose to make Bernie Sanders' supporters look bad.
Had they not reacted as they did, they would have looked like fools and that would have been the news item.
The Nevada Party is at fault here. They couldn't organize an ice cream social. The bunch who were in charge should resign.
Read the book Non-Violent Communication by Rosenberg. Bernie has probably read it. Hillary needs to. She needs to control her supporters and make it clear to them that they are to cooperate with Bernie supporters. She takes things too personally.
She is not presidential material, and the Nevada convention proves it. Neither is Donald Trump.
The only one who knows how to work with people is Bernie.
And I have to say I am volunteering for Bernie. I have worked on a lot of campaigns and have never worked with gentler, kinder people than the Bernie supporters.

Incidentally I once attended a state party nominating convention that Lyndon Larouche tried to hustle and witnessed similar tactics with my own eyes.

(68,869 posts)Even Donald who can all agree is completely unqualified to be president has reigned in the worst excesses of his supporters. But, Bernie Sanders lets his kids run amok with nary a word. He has no leadership abilities and the disgraceful behavior on the part of Bernie supporters reflects poorly on Bernie. Sen. Boxer was correct, when you boo others you boo Bernie, and when you throw chairs and threaten people to get your own way...which won't happen because you lost the primary, then you throw a chair at Bernie's revolution...which is now on life support as most people want nothing to do with such a spectacle. The more I watch this unfold the more convinced I am that Bernie is deliberately trying to throw the election to the Republicans out of spite and bitterness...What started as a way to get his ideas into the mainstream has ended in a grand delusion: somehow Bernie will wrest the nomination from Hillary. It won't happen. Bernie needs to concede after California or even today...the sooner the better. He and his supports contribute nothing worthwhile now. This is a sad closing chapter for Bernie. Once upon a time, he stood for something...not anymore.

(107 posts)Anyway, there's no evidence that any chairs were thrown. Given how many people were there filming the event, if it happened, video footage of it exists.

(68,869 posts)They were the ones trying to cheat. Hillary won Nevada. And Bernie folks tried to pull a sleazy Cruz move and steal her delegates...they almost succeeded. I can not believe you all would defend this...no one agrees with you except other Bernie types...you are destroying your so called revolution which can not withstand such unethical behavior.

(57,936 posts)You do not hold a voice vote when you know very well that there are only 30 or so votes separating yea from nay.
When you know that there are serious differences of opinion in a crowd at a convention, you plan carefully so that all have a chance to appear and be heard -- the definition of due process in a court and the best way to reduce tension and anger at a convention.
The Nevada committee that organized their convention should be replaced.
It is not a matter of which side wins and which loses. It is a matter of facilitating cooperation and making it possible to work together.
I suggest that the top people in the Democratic Party read the book Non-Violent Communication by Rosenberg.
We want to vote in California. Bernie will do well here. His points of view need to be respected. His supporters need to be respected.
Hillary's crowd should stop trying to make Bernie supporters seem violent and angry. I know a lot of Bernie supporters. Never met a more peaceful, positive bunch.
But what do you do when you make the effort to go to a convention and the chair does not allow your points of view to be aired? That's very upsetting especially if your time at the convention was preceded by a struggle in the parking lot to find a space.
The Democratic Party is at a crossroads. It can choose to respect dissent and maybe win in November or suppress it and lose as Humphrey did in 1968.
It's a choice that Hillary and her supporters have to make.
Anything can happen this election year.
Hillary has a lot of scandals to deal with. Republicans are crossing over to vote for Bernie because they don't like Trump. But they will never cross over to vote for Hillary because they despise her thanks to talk radio and years of anti-Hillary propaganda.
In the light of all this, I'm still betting on Bernie. I think he will be the next president.
If Hillary becomes vengeful and angry, she will lose everything. She will probably lose in any event.

(9,385 posts)in steamrolling a state convention. That wasn't the smartest move, but she chose to do it.
I'm not surprised that people don't take kindly to that. Sanders supporters, much less Sanders himself, are not responsible for the reactions of a given person. I'm standing with the NV Sanders delegates, and this lady is on her own as far as my reaction to it is concerned. And btw, it would be no different if a man had done the same thing.
Peter Daou is part of the campaign that committed the atrocity against democracy in Nevada. He can look in the mirror and at his cohorts including Barby Boxer and HRC, her team and surrogates, for responsibility for this. HE has quite a bit of nerve.
An election that isn't fair isn't worth a damn. It's just theater for the purpose of deceiving people into thinking there is due process when there isn't.
