2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie's fault.
If only he'd been a good little token candidate. If only they could have marginalized him as a kook. Bernie is the reason why The Most Admired Woman in the World isn't crushing the vulgar talking yam. If only he'd shut the fuck up about income inequality and instead engage in the mealy mouthed pablum about how he wants everyone to do well and how we're all in this together, rich and poor, and how we all need to make sacrifices.
But no. This nothing challenged the party designated nominee and ran on issues that polite democrats know to avoid. He ran like he meant it.
If he'd dropped out after Super Tuesday like a good little insignificant politician, it would have been clear sailing for Hillary. Her favorables would be stratospheric.
If Bernie drops out after California and endorses and campaigns for her, it's too little too late. If she loses to Trump, she bears none of the responsibility. That buck stops with him.
It's will all be Bernie's fault.

(27,787 posts)Every day we're treated to an endless stream of Bernie supporters claiming they won't vote for Hillary if she wins. As if their vote was more consequential or important than that of anyone else.
Now that the end is approaching, and its clear Hillary will win, we're treated to endless OPs about who will be at fault if Trump becomes President. As if that would only be bad for some of us.
Its all drama. Hillary is about to win the primary. And then she'll run against Trump in the General.
The only things that matters then are ensuring that Trump does not become President, taking back the Senate, and trying to knock as many Republicans out of the House as possible.
Everything else is drama.

(27,787 posts)If Trump becomes President we're all fucked.
Just a fact.
You can try and prevent that ... or you can sit in the corner pouting while loudly proclaiming that its not your fault.
Totally up to you.

(15,684 posts)Hillsies have been calling out Berners for weeks now about "continuing a charade" that is only hurting both the inevitable nominee and the Democratic Party -- because it could well cause a Trump presidency; and before that, could result in "a conservative SCOTUS for the next 3 decades". So who's blaming who here?
Frankly, in my and most Berners' view, Hillary is the weaker candidate. The D Party created this when they cleared the deck and got the message out that Hillary was the party's next nominee 18 or so months ago! As a result, there were no viable primary candidates besides Bernie to take on someone who was always a weak candidate in the face of American voters today. The Party made the situation even worse by putting together a primary schedule that let a few moderate States to position Hillary as a runaway winner at the get go. She's been losing ground ever since. That's not Bernie's fault or voters fault.
If anyone is to blame, it is the Democratic Party/DNC for letting the Clinton machine control it.

(2,201 posts)We effectively killed democracy with super delegates after our panic and loss in 1968.
The party effectively decided that party bosses would know better than actual voters.
How's that working out?
Americans hate both party frontrunners, they're more likely than ever to vote for a maverick or outsider.
Unless we put our best progressive out there, Sanders, this will not end well.

But of course, his staying in so long (as if she dropped out early in 2008) does give them a convenient scapegoat when she loses.

(3,795 posts)It is important to do that because most Americans think things ARE great and clearly trust those politicians who say the economy is strong and American families have recovered.
Silly man. Such a kook and clearly not to be taken seriously!
Think of Obama's legacy! That is clearly what is most important right now.
