2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJeff Weaver on CNN: Bernie is not going to make a point about the State Dept IG's report.
He said that it's part of a process and they're going to allow that process to continue. The interviewer pressed him on it, saying the investigation is over, why not comment on it now, and Jeff replied that people can draw their own conclusions.

(491 posts)I don't know if CNN is deliberately implying it is or something (knowing them they could be)...
It looks like the start of a good shit storm to me though. Wait and see what happens if the FBI issues a report....

(13,685 posts)He has been told what's coming down on Hillary and he doesn't have to do anything but keep on trucking,
Powers That Be have been keeping Bernie apprised of the email scandals and he knows it's just a matter of time before he is the last one in the race.

(11,785 posts)He's quite correct to stand aside and let the process play itself out.

(22,919 posts)He does so when he feels they differ over significant policies or values/priorities. The email thing falls into the category of personal failings (Hillary herself has apologized for her mistake) - not under differing visions for America. It can be argued how significant a personal failing it was and what the security consequences, if any, were from it, but Bernie is leaving that for appropriate authorities to ascertain rather than make it political.
Hillary is fortunate that she is running against a principled opponent for the Democratic nomination.
She IS fortunate to have such a principled opponent. A character like DWS would have already thrown the kitchen sink at her.

(22,919 posts)It is laughable when some argue that Sanders enables Republican attacks against Clinton. Her liabilities write themselves and will be/would have been exploited much harder by the Trump Campaign than anything Sanders has pointed to, even had Sanders never run.
The difference for Hillary if she does, as expected. become the nominee, is that in Bernie Sanders she now at least can have someone with credibility among those who are disaffected with her on the left who can make the case for why she should be supported in the Fall regardless. Money can't buy an endorsement like that, she better not blow it by not giving Sanders much to work with.

(12,685 posts)Bernie's endorsement won't whitewash the Clintons. I don't even think the Pope could do that.
Bill Clinton chose Gore to whitewash his image, but a lot has happened since then.

(22,919 posts)The more he gets to work with, the more value it can have. Progressive changes in the platform, changes in the Super Delegate system, a real progressive VP pick, full throat opposition to the TPP coupled with actual lobbying against it to make sure it doesn't pass in a lame duck session of Congress, a real commitment to install strong significant progressive voices in her administration, a change in DNC leadership, etc.

(8,168 posts)Bernie is principled, that's why I like him. His supporters? I'm not allowed to speak the truth here.

(114,904 posts)I'll tell you what I think of many Hillary supporters.
I think they're in full blown denial about her weaknesses as a candidate. I think they're the worst winners and don't have the smarts or self-discipline to grasp that attacking Bernie and his supporters at this point is plumb stupid.
I think many of them are Conservadems.
I think a lot of them don't care about issues
