Frank Says It's False He Has "25 Year Vendetta" Against Sanders. Hell, He Even Fundraised For Him

daveweigel ?@daveweigel 14h14 hours ago
Called Barney about Bernie trying to kick him off DNC Rules; he was ready w fresh trolling. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2016/05/28/dnc-rejects-sanderss-challenge-of-rules-committee-co-chairs/

___ In an interview on Saturday night, Frank was unapologetic about his criticism of Sanders, saying again that it was "McCarthyism" to link any part of the government's response to the 2008 finanicial crisis with Clinton's paid speeches to Goldman Sachs.

"If some issue would come up where an interpretation from the Rules Committee would change the outcome, I’d recuse myself," said Frank. "The fact is, that's not happening, and she's winning the nomination even if you don't count the superdelegates. What worries me is that when Bernie raises doubts about this sort of thing, it stokes the false impression that the nomination is being stolen."

Frank also said it was false to assume he had a "25 year vendetta" against Sanders.

"About 10 years ago, or 12 years ago, at his request as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, I went to Burlington to speak at a fundraiser for him," said Frank. "I hope, for the sake of his purity, that no bankers snuck into the room. And I hope he will release the list of the attendees from that fundraiser, just to make sure."

...to chair the Rules Committee.

A gay person who didn't write anti-Sanders articles would be fine for that position.

...if it's personal, like, 'he said mean things about me, so he can't treat me fairly,' as you suggest, that's not even in the realm of reasonableness. It's such a silly argument that it's an embarrassment Sanders would go there.

To take that seriously, you'd also need to consider that this is a Democratic party process, the political organization which has been the brunt of the entirety of the Sanders 'revolution,' including being subjected to a flurry of lawsuits by the Sanders campaign. Zogby and West have been strident critics of the Democratic party for decades - Sanders, too. Written articles, campaigned state to state... that's real and demonstrated bias.

..the only thing Sanders needs to be concerned about is his policy agenda.

If he's looking to the rules committee as some sort of foil for an attempt to snatch delegates and other nonsense he'll find a wall of opposition from more than the former congressman.

Barney has often been a jerk lately, if you ask me. Has nothing to do with sexual orientation. I used to like him.

How Wall Street Bought Barney Frank
Barney Frank takes pride in being the Left's darling, but he's almost entirely funded by Wall Street and his votes show it
By Kevin Connor / AlterNet

Since becoming the ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee seven years ago, he has built a formidable Wall Street donor base, even by Washington’s standards; as the housing bubble grew, so too did his fundraising purse and his stature, in Congress and beyond.

In the course of this Wall Street-fueled fundraising blitz, Frank developed a web of relationships, alliances, and attachments to financial elites that have repeatedly undermined his independence on everything from bailout negotiations to the financial reform legislation that he recently shepherded through the House. And his friends in finance continue to extend -- and collect on -- their investment.

Barney Frank–Yes, THAT Barney Frank–Joins a Bank Board
By Rachel Louise Ensign
June 17, 2015

Barney Frank, a key architect of financial-crisis era legislation that reshaped the financial industry, is joining a bank board.

Retired House Democrat Mr. Frank, one of the namesakes of the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial-reform law, was appointed to the board of directors of New York-based Signature Bank on Wednesday.

Signature is a $29 billion bank that primarily works with privately-owned businesses. The 14-year old bank has been growing rapidly and performing well at a time when other banks have struggled. Last quarter it posted its 22nd consecutive quarter of record earnings.

Wall Street hosts fundraiser for Barney Frank
By Heidi N. Moore
June 07, 2011

Heidi Moore: Every morning, a Wall Street trade group called SIFMA sends out an email with the day's news. SIFMA is the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. It represents banks and trading firms. So it's no surprise that the email is usually heavy with critical news stories about financial reform laws, like the Dodd-Frank Act.

But tonight, SIFMA will be hosting a fundraising dinner for Democratic Congressman Barney Frank: yes, he's the Frank in Dodd-Frank. SIFMA members will pay $1,000 or more for a seat at the table. The deal here isn't hard to spot: Wall Street wants to bend Frank's ear.
