(39,395 posts)Presumptuous Bernie has been calling for the party to "open up" while he's been staying away of his own volition his whole career. Obnoxious and tone deaf runs into a haymaker from Barney Frank, who can and will throw a punch.

(45,319 posts)the esteemed Mr Frank did? Do you even know that Barney wanted a non inclusive ENDA, which would have left the transgender community without protections when they are really the most vulnerable part of what is one large community even if Barney does not understand that fully. And he does not.
I stand with the transgender community, which means I am a critic of Barney Frank.

No wonder he dislikes Bernie. He's another politician who was in cahoots with lobbyists from Wall Street.
Here's your idol who is trashes Bernie.
<snip>
The pseudo-research of Fox News and friends, and their obsession with Fannie and Freddie -- hardly the root of all economic troubles -- have distracted from a core reality of Franks recent career in Congress. Since becoming the ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee seven years ago, he has built a formidable Wall Street donor base, even by Washingtons standards; as the housing bubble grew, so too did his fundraising purse and his stature, in Congress and beyond.
In the course of this Wall Street-fueled fundraising blitz, Frank developed a web of relationships, alliances, and attachments to financial elites that have repeatedly undermined his independence on everything from bailout negotiations to the financial reform legislation that he recently shepherded through the House. And his friends in finance continue to extend -- and collect on -- their investment.
<snip>
Meanwhile, Frank supported Wall Street and the hedge funds on at least two points where they lost out. He opposed an amendment offered by Brad Sherman that forces hedge funds to pay into a systemic risk fund; it passed with the overwhelming support of the committee, 52-17. A bipartisan measure to audit the Federal Reserve also passed without Franks support.
The final bill was barely out of the House before Frank was on CNBC, claiming victory but cautioning that the Fed provision -- the most celebrated populist measure in the bill -- threatened the institutions independence.

(45,319 posts)transgender community over the years. He supported the non-inclusive ENDA, and that was the end for me and Barney.
Op-ed: What Barney Frank Still Gets Wrong on ENDA
Former congressman Barney Frank is sticking by the decision to exclude transgender workers from protection under ENDA in 2007. Here's why that's still problematic.

Here is a less gentle version:
Lets be Frank About Barney Frank and ENDA
Babs | Oct 13, 2014
Early Fall 2014, the LGBT political community seems to be getting its inclusive act together, gay Republican marriage equality donors have been pushing for an inclusive ENDA and HRCs new president Chad Griffin makes a historic apology to the transgender community over the ENDA Debacle of 2007 speaking at the Southern Comfort Conference in September 2014, and backs his apology with HRCs encouraging actions to accompany their words of transgender inclusion, Barney Frank comes out of his retirement to throw grease on a long burning fire that had cooled down below a simmer.

(4,229 posts)Notice that the entire content of his ideas of accomplishments of the democratic party have to do with minority rights.
While those are good accomplishments Barney's wing of the party wants us to totally ignore the faltering middle class and all economic issues, which is why Trump could beat Hillary if she's not careful and why Bernie draws in more non democrats and beats Trump.
His statement shows the total blindness to what is happening to the working people of this country. I'm fine with the dems being the party of gay rights, womens rights non discrimination and think it's great. However if we are not the party of the WORKING PEOPLE as well then we will never have the strength that we had, when in the past we were!

(45,319 posts)transgender community. It's an exploitation fest by the posters who specialize in that sort of thing. They are uninformed and when information is offered to them which does inform them they don't bother to discuss it. Why? Because they don't know a single thing about any of these issues nor about Barney that is not directly involved in their own political agenda, so they don't know that Barney is not the Beloved of the LGBT. He's the oft criticized, semi-tolerated elder mixed bag of the LGBT community. He was first! And that's about it. The last few years he's been far too willing to capitulate.
I don't dig the guy because of the way he was willing to treat my transgender brothers and sisters. You dig him because he favors Clinton. If he favored Bernie, I'd still be critical of Barney. Because the one thing does not erase the other. That's not how it works if you have any ethics.

(4,229 posts)He just hasn't had a lot of exposure to poor people. He's got money so in his mind the most pressing issue is non economic equality for all.
I think he did the country a great favor with Dodd Frank too.
But the area he represented would be more concerned with financial regulation and equality, rich democrats. So he's sort of blind to the pressing issues somebody in rural Ohio, or PA, or Alabama might be experiencing.
