2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton, Don’t Screw This Up
These are the most important four months of your life. Get them right.
All right, Hillary, this is serious.
Against Jeb or somebody, it wouldve just been your party depending on you (and all the people your party represents). But now, with Trump, the country and the world are depending on you. The global economy. Things like that. Dont screw this up.
Yes, youre still the favorite. Heavy favorite. As I write these words, Nate Silver has you at 66 percent likely to win. And the betting markets have you at 70 percent. But those are both downin the FiveThirtyEight case, down from close to 80 percent at the beginning of the week. And that Times poll has the race tied.
The email story is doing considerable damage. James Comey did considerable damage, which he no doubt wanted to do. I knowthe truth isnt nearly as bad as the screaming headlines. The truth is that out of all those thousands of emails, were down to threethreethat might have been marked classified. And if we believe the State Department, two of them were marked mistakenly, which brings us down to one! And the markings might have been confusing and easily missed. And they werent about anything importantprep for phone calls to foreign dignitaries. But alas none of that matters right now. What matters is that more than half of America thinks you should have been indicted.

(24,401 posts)at DU. None of them amount to more than speculation at this point.
The nervous Nellies and Hillary bashers continue to post this shit when she is absolutely killing Trump in the polls, when she got millions more votes than any other candidate in either party during the primaries, has milions of $ on hand, has TV media everywhere, has a party united behind her, has a plethora of great VP options available, has an insurmountable lead projected in the EC, and all this while her opponent is imploding...but SHE'S IN BIG TROUBLE!!!!
Fuck that. It's Hillary bashing, pure and simple.
Latest Reuters poll has her up by 12: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-idUSKCN0ZV2OA?utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_content=5789651504d3010dfa7dc99b&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter

1. Of course.
The DU Terms of Service make clear that we support the Democratic nominee. Presidential elections in the United States are a zero-sum game in which other candidates must lose in order for the Democratic candidate to win. We are competing with Jill Stein and Gary Johnson and Donald Trump in our effort to win the presidency. They are our opponents.

(20,998 posts)From Skinner:
Your expectations are probably wrong
Judging from some of the discussions among members here, it seems that many people on both sides of the former Clinton-Sanders divide have unrealistic expectations about what is going to be permitted during general election season. In particular, many people seem to be under the mistaken impression that members will not be permitted to criticize Hillary Clinton. This is simply wrong. Constructive criticism of Democratic public figures is always welcome on Democratic Underground, and our rules still permit that. As I said in a previous post: "If you are criticizing Hillary Clinton because you want to help her succeed, then you'll be fine. But if you are criticizing Hillary Clinton because you want to tear her down, then you won't be fine."

(3,426 posts)That's what Jebby was talking about the other day, Trump's mastery at manipulating the media. His so called fans get a huge rise out of reading Trump's facial expressions and there is just where he plays the cameras. I don't think Hillary will play into Trump's game. I do think and more so because Trump's game appeals so much to all those that don't know, that Hillary will from time to time give Trump what he needs the most, and that is laughter that is at him not with him. To Trump, that's a slap in the face. And it's news !
Trump will sling mud for as much as he can ,he will get his ass kicked on issues. And here's the thing on issues, they can prep Trump till the cows come home, but he has become far too confident in his free wheeling with his mouth. The surprise factor about his short comings is no doubt right there. That means he is incapable of sticking to the script around issues. And his funny face act will not provide him with a satisfactory cover for his lack of knowledge . How will Trump speak to that, (?) Same as Bush did, he will say I will surround myself with best advisory staff ever assembled. And that is utter bull shit.

(20,998 posts)...I mean SERIOUSLY, there really is no other logical option. Trump is an arrogant, overblown asshole who could do some serious damage to our country. Pence, however, is the American version of the Spanish Inquisition, and downright scary. Hillary Clinton is clearly the FAR BETTER CANDIDATE AND WOULD MAKE A MUCH BETTER POTUS. This is a no-brainer, at least in my mind.
That said, who she picks as her running mate would/could bring many of the old Berners back into the fold, and "fill-out" her candidacy.
ON EDIT: I think that by picking Pence as running mate, Trump may just have forced many fence-sitters off the fence in the Clinton camp, I really do.

(1,729 posts)I have counted at least a dozen different "Trump would be better" or "I'll crawl through glass to support trump if it means no Hillary" type posters. One is even posting anti Hillary attack ads by Trump to numerous cheers.
Why would you present something you know we can so simply disprove? You have to know we are going to go look and then know that what you're saying is untrue.
nolawarlock
(1,729 posts)But there are at least a dozen openly promoting Trump as an answer for progressives and some are even posting videos of Trump attacks ads against Hillary and cheering them and only occasionally throwing in a softball critique of Grump if the do so at all. And what's worse is, most of the folks who post both here and there say nothing to challenge these posts. Whatever are we to think?

On a side note, one of my old work friends from my Dallas years, posted on FB this morning that he and his wife were invited to Dinesh D'Souza's wrap party for D'Souza's latest anti-Hillary movie. I saw a swath of previous work friends digitally high-five him for his "awesome opportunity." I have no words.

(92,551 posts)and the Justice Department.
However, the media goes out of there way to mislead. A perfect example of this was on Bloomberg this morning. They reported that an AP poll reflected that the majority in that poll believe that Hillary "broke the law". But that isn't the full story. Because what should have been added was that the FBI, and the Department of Justice found found that Hillary did NOT break the law.
Is there any wonder that 20% of the people in this country believe that President Obama is not an American Citizen? Much of the media follows the Chuck Todd school of journalism, which is: "It's not the media's job to correct errors or misconceptions"
Intentionally leaving OUT information is as bad as lying about it, because it doesn't fully disclose the facts
The NY Times was the paper that started the "criminal charges bullshit", that all the other journalistic sheep followed.
Fact: The FBI didn't recommend criminal charges against Hillary, because they didn't find that she did anything criminal.
Hillary won't "screw anything up", in spite of the constant bullshit the media outlets spew and distort about Hillary
Let's have the media tell us how "dishonest" Hillary is, then let's have a poll asking "do you think Hillary is dishonest"
That is about the closest thing to a push poll
"When did you stop beating your wife"
How about a poll asking how truthful people feel the media is?

(20,998 posts)...a major Christo-fascist, American-Talibandy kind-of-guy. Pence serves two functions on the ticket: (1) he's red meat for the old-time, American religious base that used to be part and parcel of the GOP's previously dependable voting bloc that could not bring their holier-than-thou selves to vote for Trump; and (2) he brings a dose of <GAG> stability <GAG> to the Trump ticket. I swear to God/Goddess (old and new) that the Trump/Pence ticket is like a Salvador Dali painting come to life.

(12,958 posts)It's on the politicians, always. If the politician is palatable to the biggest number of progressives, then that politician wins. Otherwise those same progressives will stay away.
As I see it there are two things she can do to mess it up.
1. Shift to the non existent 'center' AKA shift right.
2. Harp on trump (like we see on MSNBC 24/7) rather than selling herself on policy.

How fuckin condescending, just all the time with Clinton. Clinton has not earned this disrespect. Further. She has actually earned a hell of a lot more respect than this title gives, in her near perfect campaign this last year and a half.
