2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWho here has the stomach for watching the rnc, or any part thereof?
Not I-- that's for damn sure.
Others have stronger stomachs than I-- anyone daring enough to watch it?
Perhaps with a "barf bag" at their side??
Just curious

(35,619 posts)I oppose Trump, but I think he has charisma.

(14,449 posts)Trumps speech, pence's speech and maybe the youngest daughters speech out of curiosity. I DEFINELY won't watch Cruz's speech. I can't stand him at all.

(34,648 posts)I am going to watch the whole shebang! I will live blog the best parts for those who cannot stomach constant and pervasive bigotry on an epic scale. This thing must be documented for future Duers. It will be very scummy.

You will smile through the pain and float. These fuckers are insane. The RNC ought to just change it's name and come up with something new. They are an embarassment.

(16,254 posts)I'm really busy right now, but the RNC will be my entertainment at night. Clowns are usually physically funny, but this crew of clowns are beyond belief when it comes to comical comments, lies and bigotry. I'm not saying lies and bigotry are funny, but these clowns come up with s**t that is head-shaking unbelievable and I don't want to miss it.
Without Palin, I might last an hour or so.

The entertainment value lies therein.

For some reason, that has always stuck in my memory. I guess you have to be rich to do that, since I imagine he went through a lot of tv sets!!!

(1,970 posts)so I will skip watching the RNC. But I am looking forward to the highlights (or lowlights) that I am sure will be posted here on DU.
And in advance, I thank those with strong stomachs who will be watching and keeping us posted about the lowlights.

(786 posts)I want to know what to say to people when they talk all sparkly about Trump and viciously about Hillary Clinton. Needing to stay as current as possible out weighs everything else. I may have to have a Valium and barf bag near by. I may just record it and FF some of the parts...... It should be interesting considering that so many in the GOP are not really happy about Trump. I'm also wondering if it will resemble a Hitler speech with the masses falling under Trumps spell or such a farce that Hillary Clinton will get much more material for her platform and campaign. In any case it should be a driving force for driving more support towards Hillary Clinton.
Trump is such a shallow speaker that tearing his spew apart could be done by a middle-school debater. It will be entertaining, of nothing else to see Trump further bury himself as the Republicans follow the village idiot into the fire. Will they enthusiastically react to his speech? If so we will see them sink to the lowest lows that we have ever seen before.

To those who plan to watch it-- keep us posted!

(131 posts)I'm lucky to watch a 5min interview with any of these clowns without experiencing nausea, high bp & getting pissed off to the point of a migraine. I'm thinking watching any of the rnc would send me to the ER.

(12,958 posts)Wouldn't be surprised of fist fights break out between delegates. They can't get the genie back in the bottle.

(207,016 posts)I'm not watching much news these days, as it is, the minute they switch to more Trump news, I have to change the channel.
But I wouldn't be surprised if it gets decent ratings. That's the reason the "news" channels focus on Trump, people tune in just to see what's the next idiotic or outrageous thing he'll come out with...
Ms.Lib
(131 posts)That's so true, ratings will probably be off the charts
Rhiannon12866
(207,016 posts)And that is mighty scary. But the most frightening thing is that the Trumpeter himself is treating this like he's only in a race for ratings, meanwhile the future of our country - and the world - is at stake!
Welcome to DU, Ms.Lib! It's great to have you with us!
Ms.Lib
(131 posts)you're right again, it's extremely scary.
& thank you, it's great to be here!!
Rhiannon12866
(207,016 posts)Not only is he ill informed and offensive on a regular basis, but one would think his support by the KKK and the neo nazis would be a bright red flag!
I haven't kept up with the news as I usually do simply because I just can't stand to hear one more idiotic word from Trump. But you've come to exactly the right place, DU is the best place for breaking news, and pretty much anything else you need to know...
Ms.Lib
(131 posts)I've decided either his followers are a bunch of mindless zombies or scarier yet, they really are just that stupid. Either way, they are no better than him & are the ones we really have to worry about. It's surreal that someone like him can get this close to the whitehouse... It's like we're in the bloody twilight zone.
Rhiannon12866
(207,016 posts)I'm in New York, but in a traditionally Republican area. The other day I walked out of a meeting and someone said something about the election - and I replied that I'd sooner vote for the next person who drove by than Donald Trump - and everyone agreed with me. I'm assuming some of them are registered Republican, but they are horrified by him too!
Ms.Lib
(131 posts)His supporters will be horrified too should he get elected... I don't even like to think about the carnage that would follow.
Rhiannon12866
(207,016 posts)There certainly must be a lot of them around here if they keep voting Republican. I'm willing to talk politics with anyone who'll listen, was worried that I may have been nagging a friend of mine who had never bothered to vote before, but she actually took an interest and registered as a Democrat just in time to vote in the New York primary! She's also worried about Trump, but then any Republican with any sense has to be worried, too!

(3,811 posts)There's nothing new to be gained by watching. Just the same shit I see on Facebook from all of my former classmates and the rest. Every night at the gym, I exercise in front of a big screen tuned to Fox News with the sound off. It is enough. I get the gist. Cops = heroes. Blacks = thugs. Obama = destruction from within. I live in deep red Tennessee. The GOP convention will just be like an extended "blog" post from my right-wing congressman (Scott DesJarlais).
Ms.Lib
(131 posts)I'm from Tennessee as well but have lived in Florida almost 9yrs. My family & most all of my friends back home are republicans & are voting for trump. I've actually deleted my Facebook because I just couldn't take it any longer. Anyway, for what it's worth, you're not alone.
