2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI still think that Xavier Becerra would be Hillary's best choice for a running-mate.
I realize that his name has faded. But in my mind he would be a good pick. He is good on the stump. And he would be a good vice-president if elected. I hope he is still under consideration and that ultimately she settles on him.

(10,500 posts)I really hope Hillary picks him. I am convinced that he is the right person for her to choose.

(10,500 posts)It appears, however, that she is moving in Kaine's direction.
Becerra is someone who would excite the party, provide a clear contrast with Trump and is clearly ready to be president. I hate that he is not being mentioned anymore.

(47,773 posts)I would like to see a woman, but if I can't have that, Becerra would be excellent.

(7,365 posts)why a women?
Why not the best qualified (who I DO happen to think is a women).
Sexual and racial litmus tests should not be the domain of us Dems....sadly, this site shows they are.

(47,773 posts)I was thinking of Warren when I said that. The two of them together were amazing. I think it would be an extraordinary ticket.

(7,365 posts)Makes sense.
I totally agree. Liz is my choice, EASILY in fact. If she was a pasty white, boring ole' white dude I'd still love "her"....
as it is she's a brilliant women who I honestly trust with the future of our nation.
Would Hillary take her on? A Liberal Senator from Mass with limited foreign policy credentials? The practical reality says she's probably going to have to pass.
But I'd like to get the HELL OUT of these global excursions and get to fixing OUR nation, something Hillary and Liz could masterfully do.
But probably not gonna be the case

(47,773 posts)I will jinx the chances of her being chosen the VP.
I remember the first time I saw her on television (as a professor) and she could clearly explain the complex economic issues without putting you to sleep. I am so glad she went into politics. She definitely is a force of nature.
I suppose there are a lot of downsides from Hillary's point of view, some that I may not have considered, but I sure can picture them campaigning together and energizing a divided Democratic party.
Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall?

(7,365 posts)I would immediately perk up that's for sure.
I think Liz would be able to move things in a direction that will benefit everyone, not just the chosen few. That's really want we need to start working on. She would certainly balance Hillary's more corporate influence credentials that's for sure.
Them together could be awesome. I don't want to say her name either, but she is my #1 choice, Bernie #2 ....
one of the most important reasons for those two choices other than I agree with them both is the fact it would make Conservative heads explode from miles around.

(47,773 posts)Liz is the one. I am quite sure that even Biden was wooing her for VP. His instincts would have told him, she would be an excellent choice.
I don't think Bernie could ever be someone's #2 and as such, probably wouldn't be effective as a VP. With all he has accomplished this past year, I think he will be even that much more effective in the senate. There was a time when only a handful of us even knew who Bernie Sanders was. I used to listen to Breakfast with Bernie, Friday mornings on Thom Hartmann's radio show. He was a congressman then. Now everyone knows Bernie!
From a purely political point of view, if we can't have Liz, then Beccerra would be an asset for the Hispanic vote and I think he would also make a good attack dog (not nearly as much fun as Liz though).

(10,500 posts)First, he is outstandingly qualified to be vice-president.
Second, he is a member of the House Progressive Caucus.
Third, a lot of white voters, especially younger white voters, would like the opportunity to vote for the first Latino candidate.
Fourth, he might set Donald Trump off, giving him another opportunity to remind the American people of just how undeserving he is of being elected as president.
and he would be a relatively new face for most Americans, so he doesn't come with a lot of political garbage. I saw a clip of him on television and he was very effective.

(7,365 posts)I like him, don't love him, but he'd be a good choice. But at least he's not a white guy, which seems to be the most important qualification for many in here. #smh #dontactliketheenemy

(39,397 posts)Every time I hear him he's very smooth and substantial. Andrea Mitchell tried cornering him a few times yesterday and just gave up because his answers were so good. He was right on IWR and endorsed Obama last time around. All-around good man who is genuine about moving this country forward.
