The way to spin the Melania Trump kerfuffle:

The mean campaign manager is beating up on the poor defenseless thing (not hard to do if you saw how Matt Lauer talked down to her in his interview), and where is her husband? Why is he not defending his WIFE?

Note: I just woke up, so might have missed a thing or two. But Trump SHOULD defend his own wife, right? Trump supporters are particularly sexist, so they will not believe that a woman should defend herself. Plus, in all fairness, she is not a harden political operative.

6. Wonder what would happen if someone pinched Trump?

That would be fascinating. Doubt he has much of a sense of humor.....

My husband would defend me if he got a chance, but generally, someone already lost a limb, at least figuratively. I have the temper in the family.

9. I think a lot depends on who "wrote" that speech.

I seriously doubt Melania did, because, for one thing, the grammar was perfect. We know many immigrants, most very intelligent professors, and they all make grammatical mistakes at times.

Edit: If I were an immigrant in another country, my grammatical mistakes would probably be legion.

claim his poor wife was badgered by the rotten press.
He will actually use his wife to set up an attack that is already to old.

He spoke to her very s l o w l y to be sure her poor female brain could grasp his "complicated" questions.

8. could also be because she has an accent.

I was born in France and still have a french accent. I hold a phD and two masters and yet, some people still speak to me as if I am an idiot. Nothing infuriates me more than somebody speaking slowly to me because they assume that having an accent means being dumb.

to lose my accent.

I sympathize totally. After all of these years and even with French nationality, les français persist in asking me where I'm from. Alsace ? Allemagne ? Scandinavie ?

Strangely, they rarely peg me as "anglophone d'origine".

Still, I suggest that if Melania had been male, even with a thick accent, Lauer wouldn't have dared to infantilize "him" in that way.

11. Trump has to fire the speechwriter and Manafort, imo.

If he lets Manafort throw Melania under the bus, he loses even more support from women. Husbands defend their wives. They just do, or they pay the price.
