2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOkay, I voted for Clinton in the primaries but I absolutely must say this:
Bernie Sanders was absolutely golden last night.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bernie-sanders-donald-trump-rnc_us_57918739e4b0fc06ec5c7eda
I tip my hat to you, Senator Sanders. I look forward to your address at the convention and many more years of representing our interests in the US Senate.

(12,418 posts)Bernie can and I hope will take the fight to Trump for Hillary and bring another Democrat to the WH.
What the Bernie crowd know all along was that Bernie is the only one who will stand up to Trump and Hillary is going to be thankful for his participation.

(58,795 posts)the fact is, we do have some "heroes" in the Progressive movement now, and we need them in the Senate.
I'm hoping for a flip of the Senate, and many years with Liz and Bernie as committee chairs torturing Repubs for us.

(21,840 posts)We also need more progressives in the House.

Trump thrives on his own bloat. Nobody sucks the air out of the room quite like WJClinton.
Barrack is an absolute master of the casual one-off; like flies trump won't be able to swat them all down.
Trump is a billionare. NOW we get so see what a real Class Warrior sounds like.
Liz Warren. Because Facts.
I supported Sanders in the primary...'Madame President' is all I have to say.

These points were all spot-on. Glad he was in there! See, Donald? WE can "twitter-war" YOU, TOO! But our tweets actually have the advantage of being accurate.
I look forward to hearing from him next week, and having him remind everybody what really counts. I'm SO GLAD to have him on our team! I think he might prove to be invaluable in the future.

extremely useful; indispensable.
"an invaluable source of information"

"an invaluable member of the organization"
Particularly farther downrange, once we get past the 2016 election season and into the next midterm election. The midterms are where Democrats traditionally fall down on the job, don't bother to turn out to vote, don't see it as a critical or vital thing to do, don't recognize or realize how important it is NOT to slack off. And guess what ALWAYS happens? The other guys turn out, reliably and predictably, and they mess up whatever gains we made two years earlier. The last two midterm elections were where we inadvertently helped to midwife the teabagger movement, lost the Senate, and failed to make any real inroads in the House. IF WE'RE TO GET ANYTHING ACCOMPLISHED, OR ANYTHING FIXED, WE HAVE TO TURN OUT DURING THE MIDTERMS, TOO! NOT just during Presidential election years.
I'm hoping Bernie Sanders can make a profound and substantial difference there. Hopefully so especially in 2018 - because that's when HE runs for his own reelection. So we'll be hearing more from him in that cycle, too. He'll have a much larger presence because of what he built this year.

(5,070 posts)With Democrats. His voice will be great to have in the chorus against Trump. I look forward to his help during this election season. I think there will be several strong surrogates for Sec. Clinton and it's great to have him in the mix.

(5,070 posts)My sincere apologies - I never meant my post as a dig. Let me rephrase that then. A tip of the hat to Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders!!!

(9,118 posts)You're right in a narrow sense that he became a Dem to run in our primary, but he has been essential and indispensable for our party for 9 years in the Senate. The fact that our party gave him the Chair of the Veteran's Affairs Committee 4 years ago shows that Dem bigshots think he's one of us, you don't give Chairpersonships to someone who isn't on your side.
bettyellen
(47,209 posts)But that is exactly the choice he made. Words mean something, and we were not discussing something nebulous here. It's a party, he just joined. We're having a campaign, which he also just joined. I get that he's a good liberal, but that did not make him part of the party. I hope he stays too!

(9,118 posts)I guess we just disagree 'definitionally' for the reason why. No big deal.

(95,337 posts)My primaries was only the presidential election and I could only vote for Democrats. So I closed my eyes and just picked. Because in the end either one would make an awesome President and really Joe Biden was my first choice (they wouldn't let me write in his name).
There was a 3rd no name candidate on the Delaware Democratic Presidential Primaries - i might have voted for that person. That person (whose name escapes me) did get about 1000 votes in the primaries.

(58,795 posts)of some kind. It's all anecdotal shit along the lines of "All my friends supported Bernie, but they can't stand Hillary so now they're going to vote for Trump." The usual.
I don't put much stock in it. Logic tells me that anybody who truly agreed with Bernie's positions would never go Trump. A "Bernie supporter" who now stumps for Trump is likely a mole/sock puppet who only supported Bernie to oppose Hillary, and doesn't really support progressive values.
