(4,762 posts)The whining around here reminds me of the scene in Steve Martin's "The Jerk" after he goes bankrupt and is leaving his mansion... All I need is this paddle ball.
Her smartest political move in a struggle against a fascist opponent where whe needs to win the center (not the left) is to pick an experienced centrist with broad appeal. Other than symbolism the VP does nothing except break ties in the senate.
If your decision to support Hillary depends on her VP pick being a leftist you were already gone and you're just jerking our chains. Or you live in a universe of incredible privilege -- after what we saw last night you are no ally of the average American if you aren't all in to defeat Herr Trump.

(51,388 posts)Unless it is a totally stupid pick it is really not likely to make a difference who is picked in my opinion. Whoever the pick is the person should at least be able to stand on their own when they hold the debates. Meaning not looking like a fool debating Pence. That shouldn't be too difficult.
And you are right that it would be best to pick someone that is more center as long as it is not someone like Lieberman or Evan Bayh. When defining center I would say more center within our party than the overall political spectrum of Congress. Because Congress does not in my opinion represent the general population. I consider the general population to be just to the left of our most right wing of our party.
A cutoff I would consider is anyone that is to the left of Tester in the Senate would be best. With the caveat that they have the leadership qualities necessary.

(11,495 posts)All the BS posts from the JPR peanut gallery here today are really getting boring. They will never like anything she does, so I guess they just come here to cause problems stir things up.
Sample post: "If HRC picks (place name here) then she will no doubt lose."

Sounds like a Trump supporter, right? And in effect that's what they might as well be.
This is a which side are you on moment. Last night was no joke. Ideology needs to take a back seat to survival.
With us or against us, time to choose.
I always wonder just how many Trump trolls we have here, and how many are just trouble makers looking to stir things up. I guess a troll is a troll in the end.

(1,438 posts)that choosing the VP is a consolation prize for losing the primary.
Whoever she chooses, whatever his or her stand on the issues, will be lock step with Hillary.

(43,049 posts)Very few people here, including me, know what goes into picking a VP. They count electoral votes, demographics, regional attitudes and who knows what else when bringing someone on to the team who has no function other than to get some more votes and wait for the President to die get incredibly sick, or get thrown out.
And when choosing a Veep, why would one choose someone like Elizabeth Warren, whose loss to the Senate and Presidential agendas for legislation and appointments would be enormous. And open the Senate seat for a possible Republican?
Lose that just to appease a few whiny little shits who can't be counted on to vote for you no matter what you do?
Yes, it is the nadir of American society and politics that we as a nation have let Trump get this far. Those of us that haven't fallen for the nonsense must do everything we can to being some measure of sanity back to this nation.
Some on the right wing keep harping on Hillary and Obama being the two lying horns of some devil-- they haven't seen anything yet if Trump gets his hands on the White house.
