The Latest: Sanders delegates assured they won't miss votes
Jul. 23, 2016 7:33 PM EDT
WASHINGTON (AP) The Latest on the 2016 presidential campaign (all times EDT):
7:30 p.m.
The Bernie Sanders campaign is assuring its delegates they will not miss votes if they attend a private meeting with him before the start of the Democratic National Convention.
A text message Saturday to Sanders' 1,900 delegates says they should "not worry about being in the convention hall for the opening gavel."
It adds that if delegates arrive too early, they "will have nothing to do for hours."
Delegates have been expressing concerns about the meeting because it's being held at 2 p.m. Monday, miles away from the Wells Fargo Center.
The convention was originally slated to start at 3 p.m., but the DNC says the time has been changed to 4 p.m. The first votes are expected at 4:30 p.m.
Delegates will vote on the Democratic platform and rules that day.

People should get a grip.

(28,350 posts)You think the delegates believe he would serve as some kind of "decoy" to prevent them from voting? Is it Sanders himself or the delegates you think so little of in this scenario? I seriously doubt the greatest majority of the delegates are so deeply paranoid and prone to CT as to entertain such a silly notion.

(5,402 posts)No. The evidence shows the delegates cannot trust the DNC. Hillary needs to show some leadership by ousting DWS.

(5,402 posts)Delegates wouldn't believe Bernie would participate in a plot, so there is no need to explain.
You fail to address the core problem of fixing the corrupt DNC. You are like the team happy that the referees cheat, because the officials make calls in your team's favor.

the enemy? A tool of the establishment? An imprisoned stooge? Who knows. It's just sad that people have twisted their hate pretzel so hard they think Bernie would be a decoy to prevent Bernie delegates from being able to represent Bernie in a vote.
There is no reason to believe SBS would do anything of the like. Such thinking is just unimaginable to me.

(6,716 posts)but that could be cutting it close. The DNC should arrange for them to transport back and forth on busses with escorts...that shouldn't be too much to ask.

(146,356 posts)I'd think the delegates should be concerned if they're at a 2 P.M. meeting just two hours before the convention is convened. I can imagine that some will be stuck in the screening process at 4:30 when the voting begins.
I wouldn't risk it. If Sanders wants a meeting, it should be scheduled earlier to allow plenty of time for transportation and clearing security so they can be in their seats when the convention convenes.
As my old high school band director said about rehearsals and performances, "If you're early, you're on time. If you're just on time, you're late." He was right.
