2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI spent 25 minutes this afternoon calming down a Bernie supporter
who lives locally and is a friend of mine.. I have posted more than once.. I live in a very red area and Democrats here are super supportive of each other..
Well she was livid.. she had been watching MSNBC and someone protesting "claiming" to be a Bernie supporter told the interviewer that they would vote Trump before Clinton.
She felt betrayed.. and I told her and I hope I was able to reassure her.. that there are some loose cannons out there taking advantage of the situation.. to make a statement.. but it in no way reflects our elected delegates.. and then I turn on MSNBC a few minutes ago.. to the crowd booing a speaker when she says Clinton/Kaine ticket..
Then of course they had booed Bernie earlier in the day.
And this is helping what?? how?? I hope they get it out of their system.. otherwise they are going to tear this convention up and hand it over to Trump..

(3,660 posts)Just sucking it up and going with the flow would have been better? At what point do that many people get to register their displeasure?

(58,785 posts)at times. But it is not in their power to hand anything over to Trump, so I recommend not worrying so much. We can't be complacent, but we are incredibly strong compared to Trump.
Give the news that Trump and others in his camp have close ties with people in Putin's, and may have been colluding with Putin to make the GOP agenda Russia-friendly, more time to percolate and disseminate. Investigative journalists, as well as the FBI, and no doubt other agencies, are on it.
A whole lot of conservatives still see Russia as our biggest military enemy, an ever-present danger to the U.S., and most of the religious right believes that Satan will fight the armies of God out of Russia and Iran.
The effect of that conflagration is going to make all the other trumpster fires look small.
Btw, Trump's been doing business with friends of Putin for years. I've been assuming he doesn't want to release his financial details because he's poorer than he says. But what if he were more wealthy than analysts could account for?

(58,785 posts)you're watching with your feet up exchanging comments with Barack and Michelle? I defy you to get upset in their company.
Bernie reportedly is going to present "the case" for Hillary tonight and call for unity... I may just watch the big speeches with Tim Kaine and would enjoy his take. Hillary I don't see as that cool, no matter how experienced, but I rely on Bill to keep her loose and comforted.

(27,863 posts)The caucuses basically reward this kind of behavior (see Nevada and Washington for examples) and, because participation is so limited, it's not that hard to be a delegate. Bullying behavior was well rewarded.
This is exactly the type of behavior that occurred at the state convention in Nevada where they booed Barbara Boxer, and at the Snohomish County Convention in Washington where they booed Patty Murray (note that in both cases they were also booing women).

(22,881 posts)never seen anything like it.. and I am working to get our state over to a day long primary system with a caucus that same night for those who want to be a part of the party building and platform committee..
