2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumOk, I admit it.
As a Bernie supporter that vowed to vote for HRC should she be the nominee, Elizabeth Warren just gave me a reason to actually believe in Hillary.
What I am really tired of is seeing posts here that trash Bernie supporters and that needs to stop. I WILL vote HRC and I said I would that all along. I will put a measured trust in her. Because the very last thing I want is to see a DJT presidency. I want to believe in her. I still have reservations. But she is my nominee and I will support her.
It is time to come together to put an end to the craziness that is Donald J. Trump.
Who's with me?

(2,338 posts)I had a preference. I voted according to that.
To be honest, I did and do take issue with the amount of money she "earned" from Wall Street. That was my biggest issue. Now, if you can tell me how that is a good thing, I will happily listen with an open mind.

(47,209 posts)If I was wrong , forgive me but I have seen a lot of ignorance here, including giving Sanders credit for issues Hillary has been working on for 20 plus years. Lots of his supporters here spread misinformation and it was kind of a bummer. Nice to see people can still have an open mind.

(2,338 posts)I came late to the game of politics. I only knew the peripheral extent of politics. For most of the 90's, I was a single mom trying to provide for my two kids. But now, they are living their lives....so I have a bit more time. And they are full-on Dems.
At the time, I knew that GWB going to war with Iraq was an incredible mistake because he wanted to get back at Saddam trying to take out his daddy. I knew enough to understand that. There were no WMDs. Revenge was his motive.
So, at the time, I didn't spend much time in politics. I was too busy paying rent and feeding my kids. During the Republican reign of terror and distruction of this country.
Bottom line is, I will support HRC. And that should be all that matters. Unity, despite our differences.

(47,209 posts)Tonight - one being an article from before the primaries saying he still had a path - this week. Quite a few people I know seemed to want to remain completely uninformed. I'm wondering if some part of them just wanted to believe the worst because it helped their candidate. Kind of bummed to see them spread false information. We should be better than that.
Did not mean any offense! I thought Warren and FLOTUS were both incredible tonight.

(236 posts)Your response was to me, and I thought you were addressing my post I have made the mistake of clicking the wrong response thread and if that is what you did, I understand. But I took your response to my post as an attack. After I posted my reply to you, I realized it was not an attack on me, but a general response to the subject. But I am able to admit a mistake.

(2,338 posts)..were racist bigots. I learned a great deal from their racism. It is a shame that others growing up in the Bible Belt, as I did, don't learn the same. It is learned by people that are raised on hate. I often wonder how I escaped that kind of thinking.

(21,086 posts)When I was girl, during the famed 68' riots, I was living in a SW Michigan town. The white men were all jerked out of shape about riots. My father was a hunter so he had numerous guns. And although there were some disturbances race wise in the city, it was largely confined to the inner city where we did not live. Regardless, these white northern male neighbors and my father patrolled the neighborhoods with shotguns, reifels etc.
Picture the next day, I have to take the city bus to get to my inner city Catholic HS. And as I rode the bus into the city after an evening of the 'patrols', I saw children in the cold Fall morning air without shoes, coats and old men warming themselves next to barrel fires. Poverty is what I saw. So the whole thing struck me as a big lie, racism, and I never forgot.
You probably saw something like that too. Today I work in schools and I regularly see kids accept diversity that adults still struggle with. Its a lesson to us all.

(2,338 posts)There were far many more Hispanics living amongst us than "white" people. As a young teen, my best friend was a boy of Hispanic heritage. My mother decided I couldn't be friends with him anymore. Cuz, you know...boys and girls...do things... That young man became a force for equal rights in Texas. Not an easy thing to do in that part of the country. I'm proud of him. My elementary school dance partner. Still dancing around the people that think he isn't amongst the best of them. They are wrong and they will continue to be wrong.

(9,897 posts)I wanted a Sanders-Warren ticket and in my heart believe that would have been in the best interests of the country, but there is no choice to be made. Hillary is our nominee. Kaine is her running mate. They are our hope to avoid catastrophe.
WE must GET OUT THE VOTE, get people to the polls in the swing states, get people out and spread the revolution by the only means available. Sanders campaign was more than him, it was more than his personality to me. There were so many ideas of his added to the platform and the divide between Clinton and the Talking Yam so clear and the decision such a no-brainer, this is a clear choice.
I'm with her, period, full stop.

(2,338 posts)I appreciate a fellow supporter who's main goal is to defeat the orange egomaniac.
My vote is NOT against the Donald because I don't like our duly elected nominee. It is because I believe she will be exponentially better as President.
Not my first choice, but by FAR the better candidate. And I can honestly say I believe that as truth. I don't hate her. Not by any means. I think she will be a fine President. And I will support her.

(13,570 posts)We know most Bernie supporters will back Hillary. But there is a zero-reality wild-eyed vocal fringe that needs to grow up, get their brains in the right place, and see that it is Trump who is the enemy and must not be allowed to win and leave our country in smoldering ashes.
