Sanders campaign distances itself from ‘divisive’ plan by delegates to challenge Kaine nomination

The campaign manager for Bernie Sanders’ campaign called plans by some of his own delegates to challenge the nomination of Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine as Hillary Clinton’s running mate a “divisive” idea that should be abandoned.

Speaking with Buzzfeed, campaign head Jeff Weaver dismissed the idea, saying had Sanders won the nomination he would have expected delegates to respect his choice. “It’s very divisive,” Weaver explained. “She’s the presidential nominee. If Bernie were the nominee, would you want the conservatives trying to nominate our vice president? So, that’s what I would say.”

Progressive activists have been unhappy with the selection of the more moderate Kaine, hoping instead that Clinton had tapped the more liberal Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA-D), Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio, or even Sanders himself.

According to the Norman Solomon of the Bernie Delegates Network, the group has been working on rounding up enough delegates to challenge the nomination on the floor, but acknowledged that it likely would not happen.

The heckling rattled her a bit, I thought. She lost her stride and tempo and never regained it.

They have some nerve to claim now they want her for VP.

I'm really glad we have Elizabeth in the Senate and hopefully our Country can send more Dems to help her and the others in 2017.

I didn't think I would be, having heard of his somewhat centrist tendencies, but his bio is deep and balanced, with experiences to give him empathy; and what good would it have done to pick someone she was uncomfortable with? I hope Tim Kaine will be able to contribute and complement.

Latin American policy is important to me. I thought that comment was very interesting. And I found this, from 2013:

Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia and a dozen other senators wrote that the “difficult and dangerous climate” in Honduras raises “serious concerns over the Honduran government’s ability to conduct free and fair elections.”

...that just happens to look dumb.

If DWS can be bought off and silenced with concessions, so can delegates, or so they may think. Rather than complaining, I believe our nominee should take this as a test of leadership.
