A Texas delegation breakfast Tuesday morning broke out in a screaming match as a Bernie Sanders delegate told the crowd he was condemning our presumptive nominee.
The comment came during a unity effort, during which the delegate, Russell Lytle, was expected to talk about the Sanders revolution and then segue into ways to work to elect Democrats across the state.
Chaos erupted after his comment as Hillary Clinton supporters and delegates booed the speaker and chanted Clintons name.
Were just in a state of shock because thats not what we were told was going to happen, said Gilberto Hinojosa, chairman of the Texas Democratic Party.
However, Hinojosa said most delegates quickly denounced Lytle's comment.
Within minutes, Bernie delegates started coming to me and said, We are really sorry. This is not what we planned to do. We do not agree with this,'" Hinojosa recalled.
He said some Sanders delegates then went back on the stage to address the situation and apologized for Lytles remark. Lytle has since turned in his credentials and released a statement apologizing for the remark.

(135,425 posts)They either support their candidate--AND his wishes as to how he wants his delegation to behave--or they should just go home. This isn't about THEM--it's about the guy they are supposedly representing.

(6,716 posts)the board is swarmed with Bernie supporters that say hateful things about our candidate, then the apologizers show up and say that it's only a small percentage, blah, blah. The fact remains that we can't have a conversation about our candidate without the breakthrough Bernie crap. I hope Skinner will enact some new rules after the convention so we can continue to have a conversation without online jeers and boos from Bernie's side.

(889 posts)The one thing here that has irked me are those who are eager to dismiss the fact that the emails were hacked by Russia for the purpose of disrupting our process. They are wrong, according to at least 2 cyber security firms and the FBI feels it's serious enough to investigate. These same people also seem to dismiss Trump's ties to Russia as well.
When you're that eager to poo poo those concerns it sets off alarm bells for me as far as what their true motive is.

(1,438 posts)that after a rocky start yesterday, Democrats are doing a pretty good job of keeping things orderly.
The thing that impresses me is that we aren't using a heavy-hand to put down dissension.
I think quietly replacing disruptive delegates and those that publicly pledge to support a non-Democrat is the right approach.
Listening to their grievances doesn't cost anything.

(4,640 posts)the decency to turn in his credentials. There is that.
That the REST of the delegates from his state did not agree with him was good to see!

(146,018 posts)The sanders campaign head and the clinton campaign head asked us to listen to the sanders delegates. The entire sanders delegation is 75 people and 20 to 30 of the young ones walked in arm in arm. The kid who condemned our presumptive nominee apologized and had his credentials suspended or he gave these credentials up.
There will be roll call vote tonight. Sanders is speaking to the Texas delegation tomorrow
Gary Mauro is the head of the Texas Clinton campaign snd Gary ask the we accept apology and be nice to the sanders delegates

(60,352 posts)They have had their day, now the convention must move on to electing Democrats.
And just because people didn't get their way, does not give excuse to throw temper tantrums and be disruptors. It is exactly how my republican brother acts when we get together. Hence the reason I no longer get together with him or even talk to him.
