I'd hate to think it was just for show, rather than amateur of principle, and I'm sure the alternates would love the opportunity to vote for the VP choice.

(11,641 posts)I don't want to knock Debbie. I've always admired her as a human being, but this is not something the DNC ever should have done, Dean said. We had a really strict rule. We are so strict that I did not vote in the Vermont primary at all, because voting for somebody and keeping your mouth shut is not the same as being neutral.
~Snip~
Dean offered praise for Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), who resigned from her position within the DNC to endorse Sanders and campaign on his behalf as a surrogate. He said Gabbards decision to resign was the right thing to do.

(36,649 posts)We can find the half-dozen most ill-advised messages that cast the organization in the worst light possible, then spend a week harping on them. Then we'll talk.
The DNC emails are the sideshow diversion. The real story is the fact that every indication shows that Putin is behind it, and the fact that he could manipulate people so easily.

(68,869 posts)In terms of how the DNC may have treated him along the way, they may have a legitimate complaint, she said.
Regardless, Pelosi continued, such concerns must be laid aside in the face of a general election rival like Donald Trump.
Griping about that is a luxury our country cannot afford when we have such a drastic difference between Democrats and Republicans, between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, she said."
The primary is over. Our job is to elect Trump.

(58,785 posts)the progressive changes they claim, absolutely. They've gotten badly off track. The vast majority are fools who have soaked up propaganda lies about Hillary Clinton and the party and are far more influenced by that destructive negativism than any positive goals Bernie once excited.
Bernie himself is still right on track. His and Hillary's have converged because their goals all lie further down that same track they're both on. And so he has committed to electing her as his best means of ultimately achieving what he intends.
This walkout that sandbagged their own leader as he promoted their revolution in the national spotlight was frankly extremely ignorant, misguided and boorish.
Of course, in lying that the Hillary and the party were totally corrupt, lying that they are totally in business's pockets, and constantly lying that they were stealing the primary elections in many states, Bernie is only getting some of his own back. Unfortunately, these hard-core believers internalized his lies far too much to believe him now when he says, no, these are really the good guys.

(1,999 posts)And honestly I think Dean's position of not voting in the primary when he was DNC chair was silly. Not voting for your favored candidate doesn't mean you don't have one.
still_one
(92,552 posts)Of course not. It was inappropriate.
It is not unlike an employee using his or her companies email to correspond personal opinions, which are negative about his employer's policies, or business affairs to others outside of the company.
It should be noted that nothing in those emails showed any actual interference by the DNC. It would not have changed the results.
The voting, is handled by the individual states.
The DNC's purpose is to provide support for party candidates. It has no authority over elected officials. It is responsible for promoting the Democratic platform. It supervises the national convention, and coordinates with the presidential nominees in raising funds.

(28,270 posts)Greens have no business at a democratic convention except to disrupt it and help Trump get elected.
Jill Stein and her purist party are just another arm of the RNC as far as I'm concerned.

(1,514 posts)Essentially, anything other than a vote for Hillary is a vote for Trump. This would include Jill Stein, writing in Bernie, not voting at all. Is this the message you're conveying? If that's the case, then this would be the same You're either with us or against us that can be found in many other places.

(2,542 posts)It's a fancy straw man, don't get me wrong, but one has nothing to do with another.
On election day, any vote that is not against Trump is actively helping him win, either by directly supporting him or supporting alternatives that still make his victory likely.

(1,514 posts)It's this whole concept of If you don't vote for Hillary, you're getting Trump elected BS. If you vote for Trump, THEN you're helping Trump get elected. I'm not voting for Trump, no way, no how. He's a sick, twisted, ignorant narcissist. Conversely, I don't appreciate being guilted into voting for the Democratic nominee. I have been a member here at DU since 2006, have never voted Republican in my life, and don't intend on voting Republican, ever. If I choose to sit this election out because I'm not happy with the slate of choices, then that is my prerogative. I will not be bullied or guilted into anything.

If they've removed themselves from official party functions, I'm fine with that. Hell, if they're not rioting, I wouldn't even fear their demonstrating further inside. After last night, I think they've been marginalized sufficiently.

(5,072 posts)You can't have your cake and eat it too. You attend a convention to do the work of the Democratic Party. That's why the Party send you there. It's not a vacation - it's a job. That job includes casting your roll call vote and then - just like any election - accepting the Results. I don't know, but I suspect you also sign something saying you will abide by the rules of the party and the convention.
Several of the assholes interviewed proudly stated they would vote for the Green or other alternative party and would not support the Democratic nominee this fall. Seems to me that should be enough to disqualify your credentials.
It also seems to me if these assholes had any self respect at all, they would hand back their credentials if they no longer support the Democratic Party and its candidate for President. If you want to support another party - now is as good a time as any to start.
