2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf those moronic anarchists disrupt this historic night...
I don't know, but they MUST be stopped.
Tonight he Democratic party is making HISTORY. Nominating the FIRST woman for president of a major party EVER. This will happen only this once.
This is a night to be proud to be a DEMOCRAT, and an AMERICAN. The country is taking a GIGANTIC step towards EQUALITY.
This is a night to CELEBRATE.
And those stupid, entitled, spoiled brats have no right to damper this moment.

If you want to be more inclusive, that's a different point.

(5,122 posts)But that's not a law. People have a right...
I'm not saying it's not unfortunate but I am saying it is reality in America today. To expect no protests is also not realistic. It is an indication of where we are at as a nation.

(22,165 posts).... right up to the point that their right interferes with the rights of other people (equally invested and equally endowed with the same rights) to participate.
If they want to chant, boo whatever .... between speeches and allow people there their right to hear and to speak .... I have no problem whatsoever .... but their rights are not more important than the rights of the other people there.

(8,254 posts)no more than I have rights to protest in ur living room..... This Convention is a private event, not open to the Public......
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts)(quite obviously no one has confused this with constitutional rights)
I am quite interested in what you disagree with in my post .... you believe that protest is forbidden at the convention?
Do you simply believe I am wrong about protest being OK (even good) up to the point that it interferes with the rights of others (not constitutional rights, please do not confuse).....?
How should disagreement be handled? Perhaps emails to the DNC?
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)but u do not have a right to protest, there is time and place for everything and the DNC should have booted them off the floor for their behavior.....
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts).... releases, delegate communications. I can't find my idea about not infringing on the rights of others either (ie do not disrupt speakers, presentations or interfere with others listening or participating)
I am off to enjoy Clinton's acceptance.
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)infringe on the rights of other....... geez.... I dont have any written rules abt behavior in my living room but u dont have the right do as please there. same applies to private event including the DNC convention.

I think my ideas for polite protest are sufficient .... but understand you think they don't do far enough and would like to forbid all protest.
contact the DNC I am sure they will appreciate your input (or they may draw other conclusions about you), but at least you can say you tried
Cryptoad
(8,254 posts)but thanks anyway.... u still never told why u think u have the right to protest an private event.
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts)... it is clearly very important to you. Perhaps you can contact a more effective member and request it be written in.
There is still time to forbid any protest in 4 years (i am sure subsequent conventions will be well attended).
Mercifully, most members are intelligent and politically savvy so the odds of polite protest and dissent being banned are slim .... you should bring your concerns to the intelligent and savvy members.
Here is a phone number for the DNC (202) 863-8000

(22,165 posts)... if you read the sub thread ... I do not believe that anyone has the right to disrupt speakers or to interfere with delegates listening (and participating) in those speeches.
i have been very outspoken r/t to my disgust with heckling and disruption (interfering with others ability to participate) .... but i don't want a party where you can't have a placard that says: no TPP, if you want to keep signs r chant Bernie between speeches and events ... I don't have a problem.
Dissent and disagreement can foster growth ... I don't think most want it forbidden
As long as the protest does not disrupt or prevent others participation why stifle it?
By the way, I think the heckling and disruptive posters are complete ass holes

(889 posts)Beyond that, it's fucking rude to interrupt other people while they are talking. If people can't extend that common courtesy I don't GAF about what they're complaining about. The barbarian convention was last week. The people heckling are assholes. Believe that.

(15,805 posts)However, you cannot use someone else's private celebration as your own personal media event. This whole show belongs to the DNC, they planned it and they paid for it. They, and their millions of Democratic members, as well as the millions of viewers, have rights too.
If you object, take it to the streets, pound away on social media, or start your own political party and do it your way, but don't infringe on all the other people who disagree with you and want nothing to do with your political inclinations.

(10,014 posts)I know people who have worked for progressive causes and the Democratic Party for years. They've never been able to go the convention. They watch tv and see people who registered as Dems in the last year disrupting the convention of the party they dearly love and have devoted much time and effort on.
These disrupters have no respect for the other attendees who are thrilled to be there, the office holders who work hard promoting progressive values, and even the President.
I have nothing positive to say about the disrupters.

(51,403 posts)It is run by the DNC and they have the rules spelled out in the Call for the Convention as well as their bylaws.
And no not all Democrats are invited. And those that are in the convention hall agree to follow the rules. Whether they are delegates, press, or guests. They all have to be approved and have credential passes.

(5,648 posts)People should be able act like an idiots and try to disrupt one of the most historic events our lifetimes.
I dont question the disruptivers rights to express their views, I question their judgement, I question their timing, I question their willingness to try to suppress the right of self expression of others, and I question their selfishness in believing that their personal resentment of the irreparable actions of others is more important than the needs of their country. In short I question their sanity.

(5,122 posts)I'm responding to the idea that "they must be stopped". Our country was born of protest. One of the most significant protests in history.
Instead of "stopping" them, maybe they should either be ignored or listened to. Stopping them is un-American.
Moving them outside is understandable.

Its undemocratic what DSW and the DNC did to Sanders (note I did not include Hillary) I fully Support Clinton but the protesters have the right to protest.

(5,648 posts)Are you familiar with the worst of the plots cooked up by DNC members? They didn't have a clue how affect the election and they didn't. While their behavior was reprehensible, they mistreated no one because they didn't have a clue how to do so.

(860 posts)I am strongly supporting Hillary. People with grievances need to be heard. If it disrupts or offends it is annoying, yet it truly an American right. No one likes being protested, yet these people need to be heard. They feel no one is listening. So they protest God bless them and the United States of America!
Proud Public Servant
(2,097 posts)They feel they're not being heard? The MSM, which they love to deride, has covered them every single night of this convention. A handful of malcontents has managed to promote the narrative that the Party is divided, when nothing could be further from the truth. Of COURSE they're being heard, and they know it; what they can't bear is that precisely BECAUSE they're being heard, they're being judged ridiculous and irrelevant. Poor babies.

Down here...now these were anarchists.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alexander Mitchell Palmer
The Palmer Raids were a series of raids conducted by the United States Department of Justice to capture, arrest and deport radical leftists, especially anarchists, from the United States. The raids and arrests occurred in November 1919 and January 1920 under the leadership of Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer. Though more than 500 foreign citizens were deported, including a number of prominent leftist leaders, Palmer's efforts were largely frustrated by officials at the U.S. Department of Labor, which had authority for deportations and objected to Palmer's methods.
The Palmer Raids occurred in the larger context of the Red Scare, the term given to fear of and reaction against communist radicals in the U.S. in the years immediately following World War I. There were strikes that garnered national attention, race riots in more than 30 cities, and two sets of bombings in April and June 1919, including one bomb mailed to Palmer's home.

then we're gonna stop the war just like last time.
If no one has ever fired a shot in your direction, if you never took the oath and swore to defend against all enemies foriegn and domestic; that's right you know where I am going. Then don't call me stupid, entitled and spoiled. look in the mirror.
A little oversimplified to call us anarchists when we put our lives at risk to defend civilization.
