(TPM) Something strange happened on the last night of the Democratic National Convention.
After the GOP nominee lambasted the Democrats on Twitter for displaying what he viewed as too few American flags, there was a sea of waving flags as far as the eye could see when Hillary Clinton became the first woman to accept a major party's nomination on Thursday.
A small faction of protesters chanting "no more war" as General John Allen spoke were quickly drowned out by chants of "USA!" filling the Philadelphia arena. The most notable refrain from the RNC crowd last week: "Lock her up."
The evening also hammered home the stark tonal difference between the two conventions. After Trump painted America as a downcast country in need of a billionaire savior, night after night of all-star DNC speakers preached a sermon of American exceptionalism, with values that unify us all talking points once exclusively owned by Republicans.
It was enough to give a lot of conservatives whiplash. Here are just a few of them praising the DNC and bemoaning the state of affairs in their own party.

So grateful that our brilliant Dem Convention penetrated their gop brains.. it would seem Benedict Donald has helped us immensely in that area, too. The goprimary voters really were quite helpful.

So much thought went into it-- such great speakers-- really riveting!!
Off to sleep, I hope!!

(10,252 posts)putting country first, instead of party first. Maybe some will grow a backbone and and begin he reform the much-needed purge of their party of the depraved haters, liars, bigots, and greed-mongering people, who have run their party for 100 years. That assumes of course that there are any Reps of good will left in that party. I feel a big, big repudiation of the GOP coming next Nov. Because Trump is not going to stop saying stupid, ridiculous and alarming comments. Every week, he will show us just how unqualified he is to be Prez.

"They're stuck with the Frankenstein they created."Which wasn't created overnight. This needs so little updating, it's scary:
Whether or not you agree that "Fox News has moved in and essentially replaced the RNC as the driving electoral force in Republican politics today," it isn't Roger Ailes' fault that Perry made Bush Jr. seem lucid, that Cain made Bachmann seem lucid, that Romney is as appealing as a cactus, or that Gingrich called Obama a "food stamp President."
While Fox News should rightfully be considered a branch of Republican party, their role is that of a pipeline to the public. Ailes can only work with what the GOP shovels into Fox News' front end. Suggesting that Ailes is a loose cannon recklessly spewing "relentless paranoia" and "slash and burn tactics" simply enables the Republican crime family values of deflecting blame and avoiding accountability. The blame and accountability lie squarely with "the private face" of the GOP leadership for being too ideologically tone-deaf at best, and too rich at worst, to display any genuine attention -- never mind empathy -- toward the voters.

The "conservative values" defended are, of course, American values.

(45,676 posts)celebrating our successes and clear plans for a successful future. America is a great country and Democrats are proud of our country.
Vs the GOP who has gone downhill very quickly with infighting among their leaders, lack of support for their nominee, and general negativity. The GOP is the America sucks party. The GOP nominee is inviting espionage from Russia. They are living in an alternate reality.
I think the American voters will respond favorable to our positive message. Love trumps hate. More voters are finding out that Trump is unqualified and Hillary is one of the most qualified candidates to ever run for the office of president. She is the most prepared to lead from day one.
I really liked the American flags, and the veterans, and police, and the mothers and preachers, and other folks. GOP doesn't own patriotism or family values. Democrats actually value families.

(44,588 posts)Well, duh. It was what I called the "wary women, embarrassed evangelicals, mortified moderates, and repulsed ex-Bushies" vote that pushed Obama past McCain. And Mitt lost his edge with independents when he refused to show his tax returns.
And don't forget that Hillary has a secret weapon -- an ex-president for a husband whose policies bought the U.S. eight years of peace and prosperity.

(22,912 posts)I'm surprised the gop is being so generous-- I guess it's that they can't find anything to criticize and they're forced to concede that the DNC was quite smashing.
Maybe it was Obama's assertion that what was seen last week "wasn't really republican"-- and "it certainly wasn't conservative"-- very important words
I think it was a punch in the gut to them because they know he was right
I learned a lot just listening to Obama's speech-- and I will miss him terribly
