They were done in 2006. Only the media (their product is drama) and gerrymandering have kept them alive.

I would never write them off, or turn my back on them, thinking they're permanently "finished." Everything goes in cycles anyway. But the only reason they've been able to maintain the House is through gerrymandering and voter suppression.

That said, if Hillary wins in November -- and I believe she will -- the Supreme Court will veer left for a generation. And for that alone we should sigh a BIG sigh of relief.

Metro135, your second comment is right on!

My fondest wish for this election is that Hillary wins so that we can get some level-headed appointees on our Supreme Court. I have been so tired and frustrated with the Republican justices deciding cases on the basis of their politics. We would not have been stuck with W for eight years, if we had just had one less GOP justice on that court in 2000. We also wouldn't have uncontrolled campaign spending or a gutted Voting Rights Act.

I am so looking forward to seeing competent justices on the high court again.

Go Hillary!

in terms of the party's traditional roles/strengths. And Trump made it all possible. Insulting the troops was about the worst thing Trump could have done to the GOP brand. He left a massive opening for the Democrats.

Are in full bore capitulation. They are eulogizing the Republican party and Trumpism. I normally hate these guys, but they have nothing bad to say about us this morning.

They have Madelaine Albright on and are actually having a positive conversation.

I am in as much shock as they are.....

You are right they don't own patriotism or family values. In fact, I would argue that the Dems have owned them all along. But it is tough to swallow when the GOP says we sound like Reagan. Reagan was terrible for our nation. I don't want to follow that lead.

2 years ago bucking Fox News would have been a political death sentence for a Republican.
Now, Trump went right at them and they buckled to him. He threw away the dog whistles and their true colors came out. the party lost control to Fox News and then Fox News lost control.

He basically called President Obama the N-word at his last press conference. His followers know exactly what he meant.

35. We sound like what they THINK Reagan was like,
Fri Jul 29, 2016, 10:27 AM
Jul 2016

not as he actually was.

They see Reagan as this patriotic, avuncular saint who never said or did anything wrong. In fact, except for a more slick delivery, Reagan had much more in common with Trump than they'll ever admit.

Reagan started his campaign with a major dog whistle--making his first stop at the town in Mississippi where four civil rights workers were killed.

Reagan routinely said things that anyone with half a mind found embarrassing: about Latin America, "You'd be surprised, they're all different countries down there," about the environment, "trees cause air pollution... you've seen one redwood, you've seen them all..." about history, "Vietnam was always two countries...." I could go on and on.

Reagan was mean spirited (accused Dukakis of being mentally ill), a rabid red-baiter (accused disability rights activists protesting brutal conditions in state institutions of being communists), a homophobe who allowed the AIDS epidemic to go unchecked...

Etc. etc. etc.

We don't sound anything like THAT at all.

The fact that these people THINK they were ever truly like what they heard speaks volumes for how easy it is to hear what you want to and how insidious the GOP tactic of projectionism truly is...

The GOP has been projecting their flaws onto the Democrats since at least the Reagan years, but never more so than in 2000 and 2004. I STILL seethe with anger over the Swift Boat fraudsters and the Cheney presidency with the commander in chimp along for signing duties.

Facebooked and retweeting myself

Having worked in all of the places that I have, my facebook especially is filled with people from all walks of life, and political leanings. Throughtout the primary process, the ones that are pro republican and the ones who've been pro Trump have been strangely silent these last few days.

8 years ago, and younger Democratic Party Presidential Candidate Barak Obama promised us Hope and Change.

Yes, there is a long way still to go, but looking at the convention contrasts.. How can anyone deny that he DID deliver???

YES WE CAN!!!!

...If the goal is to reach independents and conservatives uneasy (with) Trump, well done Democrats.

Well, duh -- they're the ones who were "uneasy" with Mitt when he wouldn't show his tax returns.

P.S:
TMZ: Justin Bieber got a $5 million offer to perform at a Republican event during the GOP Convention, but turned it down after his manager considered quitting...

Sources connected with CAA -- the talent agency which reps Bieber and received the offer...(said) he would perform for 45 minutes at a venue near Quicken Loans Arena, where the RNC was held. We're told the promoter assured Justin's people the event was "not political..."

According to the contract, the $5 million was bankrolled by GOP donors..Justin...(a) Canadian...would not be endorsing Trump or any GOP policies...(but he) could say nothing disparaging about Trump or the GOP...(H)e seriously considered doing it...(But his) manager Scooter Braun, a big Hillary Clinton supporter who even held a fundraiser for her at his L.A. home...said he couldn't continue to represent the singer if he did, out of principle...(He) and CAA felt (that) regardless of the representations, this was "100 percent political."
