Kentucky GOP To Dem Candidate Grimes: Return Woody Allen's Donation

CATHERINE THOMPSON – FEBRUARY 11, 2014, 7:13 AM EST

The Republican Party of Kentucky on Monday called for Democratic Senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes to return donations from two men accused of sexual misconduct, including famed director Woody Allen.

Louisville radio station WFPL reported that the Grimes campaign received a $500 campaign contribution from Allen and a $250 contribution from John Arnold, a former Democratic state representative who resigned last year over allegations he sexually harassed three statehouse employees.

"We are asking for Alison Lundergan Grimes to return that donation. If she really cares about standing up for Kentucky women she should do that," Kentucky GOP spokeswoman Kelsey Cooper said, as quoted by WFPL. "And if she doesn't we can only assume either she condones sexual harassment and disgustingly inappropriate behavior in the workplace or she's more concerned with her liberal allies campaign cash than the women of Kentucky."

Cooper said the donation from Allen, who recently denied his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow's allegations that he sexually abused her when she was 7 years old, is "just another instance of someone accused of mistreating women publicly supporting her campaign," as quoted by WFPL.

Does someone get to see a list of all of Mitch McConnell's donors and pick some that distasteful? That would be interesting.

Though I wouldn't necessarily be crazy about getting money from some sources, weeding out all of the donations one might potentially receive from various "distasteful" sources during the course of a campaign would probably wind up being a full-time job in and of itself. It's certainly a good way for Republicans to distract from dealing with any substantive issues and, frankly, I'm sure that they have their own donation issues as well.
