Come one, come all! Step right up and buy your ticket for a ride on the splendiferous, phantasmagoric, miraculous, "Trans-Pacific Partnership"
TPP is not some sort of futuristic, flying machine, but yet another trade scam coming at us like a volcanic eruption straight out of hell.
This thing is a "partnership" of, by, and for global corporations -- similar to NAFTA, only much, much, much bigger and far more destructive both to the middle class and to our people's sovereignty
Negotiating in strict secrecy during the past seven years, a cabal of the Obama White House and corporate lobbyists are now ready to spring it on us, and Republican leaders intend to ram it into law before We the People can get a whiff of it's anti-democratic stench.
Indeed, to perfume it, they've already began a PR campaign tauting TPP as the long-sought wonder cure for America's downtrodden working class.
For example, such odd-bedfellow boosters as Secretary of State John Kerry and the US Chamber of Commerce both exclaim that the 12-nation scheme will "support 650,000 new jobs"
Wow...Really?
No. Glenn Kessler, who writes the Washington Post's "Fact-Checker" column, dug into that number in January, and found that it was incorrectly calculated, misleading...and silly.
In fact, he wrote, instead of TPP yielding 650,000 new jobs, "The correct number is zero."
He also pointed out that even if 650,000 new jobs were created, that's not even a drop in the bucket, for it would increase US employment by less than one-half of one percent.
Be alert, friends, for the TPP Gang will try to dazzle us with hokey numbers and neon lies -- while they steal our democratic rights and turn our future well-being over to global corporations.

(8,434 posts)Democrats have stood in his way for the last 6 years.
Thankfully, the last election has given him a chance. Republicans are united behind their scapegoat and ready to pass this evil deal.
Stand up! Unite behind our Democratic President and help him pass this trade deal. Make your signs and march in the streets today.

(54,770 posts)more complicated issue than most folks seem to understand. It has serious implications for our future that myopic people are missing, IMO.

(8,434 posts)We should TRUST Obama and his Republican allies. We should support the fast track plans. Why should anyone really get time to read about this deal first and discuss it openly.
I fully trust Obama and Boehner to know what is best for me.

(8,434 posts)It's not about just me. Its about every worker here in the US. It's about the quality of our air and water. It's about a lot of things.
Democrats stand against it. Obama can only get this passed with the help of the Republicans. The same Republicans that have stood against everything and anything from this President.
But somehow, now that's a good thing.
For fucks sake. When will this insanity end?
Well stated!

(1,936 posts)numbers can be parsed many different ways. How about links to both sides of that 650,000 calculation?
Also, with little known about TPP, it seems that people are prejudging TPP without reason.

(39,909 posts).. to make ANYONE suspicious of this one,
especially all the secrecy and the locking out of Unions, Environmentalists, and Human Rights Organizations.
