Between now and August, the Republican presidential race will not be about “winning” anything. It will be about not being so invisible, so insignificant, so HOPELESS that Fox News boss Roger Ailes cuts you out of the first GOP debate, which Jolly Roger is hosting in the Mistake on the Lake on Aug. 6. So many candidates are in or entering the field that at least a half-dozen of them could be left out -- since Ailes has decreed that only the top 10, as measured by a poll of polls, will be allowed onstage.

So if you are a candidate, what you need is a niche, a shtick, a vivid stand on an issue (you may only need one) or perhaps even just a unique hairdo -- anything to get the two or three percentage points necessary to make the grade.

In a race that doesn’t really have any front-runners -- that, so far, is the electoral equivalent of entropy -- the only drama is in who will be left behind. And even if you were never thinking of running -- even if you aren’t even a Republican -- there is still a chance for you to jump in. We promise to include you in our next compilation of Republican Left Behind. For now, here they are, in ascending order of the likelihood that they'll actually make it to Cleveland this August:
