2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe favoritism in Politics has got to go.
Once Citizens United was passed in 2010, the politicians that are suppose to work for US, were being bought and paid for by the 1%. These politicians then supported all their "bought and paid for" special interests, whether it's good or bad. I hear it on almost a daily basis. And everyone knows the 1% have no interest in the remaining 99%, other than use us as cheap labor. Anyone that cannot see this is happening right in front of US, must be totally blind, or don't care. 40 years of political corruption and failed policies has to end. Actually I'm afraid if we do not change it soon, it will NEVER be done. Reversing Citizens United would be impossible to change, if the 1% made ALL the decisions for this country. Oligarchy is their goal, and the curve keeps turning in this direction on a daily basis. Look around.
So how do we stop this and protect our future and the future for our children and grandchildren? A political revolution, right? How else will we stop the 1% from controlling your every move?
The answer is quite simple. ELECT BERNIE SANDERS!!! NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, will ever match Bernie Sanders and his outright beliefs. I could go on and on about all the items he stands for, but most of us know it already.
I know one thing. He is the ONLY one to get us where our political system needs to be. There is no Republican, nor Democrat that can contest his stance. The debates should make for some interesting conflicts. And for those that haven't heard, Bernie wants the debates to start soon. This guy is no fool, and knows he can win. No one can match him and he wants everyone to know that. Bring it on.

(3,544 posts)He indicated that not doing what was expected after the election, was one of Obama's biggest mistakes. It was like he played the electorate. Once there, he ignored his supporters and did what he wanted.
Bernie says he stands by what he says. Who knows. I do know one thing. I TRUST Bernie.

(3,163 posts)Campaigning is one thing. Governing is a different matter altogether. Obama's failure to keep his promises was partly that they were empty promises, but only partly so. In part it was because he, like Bernie and all other presidential candidates, make promises that no president has the power to implement.
For instance, "I will cut taxes by 5%." Only Congress can cut taxes.
"I will balance the budget" Only Congress can set the budget. There is no constitutional authority for the president to even suggest a budget.

(10,893 posts)a lot of things I like and think need more attention, but he can't carry out the "revolution" by himself. It's going to also require gaining strong control of both Houses to get things done. Also while he's my preferred candidate so far, much of what he has said so far has also been touched on by Clinton and O'Malley. Sanders has just been more strident about it.
