Just heard on CNN - John King

that VP Biden may be running - he says his sons encouraged it.

I knew it. That Beau was a politician who loved politics and he sure thought the world of his dad (as we all do)...

I guess I'll have to donate to two guys now - Bernie & Joe

He'll take a chunk of voters away if he does. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bernie actually lose ground if Biden jumps in. I was hoping that having seen the polling, he wouldn't bother. I don't think he actually has any new ideas to bring to the race that aren't covered by other candidates already.

And with the following he's gotten since running for President, people will pay attention when he speaks in the Senate, the same as we do for Warren. We all pay attention to her, and the new president will have his hands full with these two liberals.

But with Joe, it would be the end. Though with all his foreign relations, all friendly I think, he could be Sec of State very easily....putting Kerry in as VP...

and Obama's been a mentor to him.

No one has learned more about the presidency than any man in history, and he has the charm and naturalness that Obama has.

Gees, if Obama campaigns for him, it's a done deal....maybe no rich supporters but millions of us poor ones.

I would expect him to campaign for the Democratic nominee, but maintain a hands-off POV before one is selected.

It certainly used to mean something, but I'm not sure recent generations see it as meaning all that much. As we saw in 2008, a lot of voters reject the 'It's my turn' mentality to politics.

Is it's her turn.

Biden being VP makes him serious candiate.doesn't mean he will win.

He would have to have some reason why he is different than Hillary or Bernie.

While he voted for bankrupticay bill biden isn't nowhere near connected to wall street like clintons.Let's not forget before becoming VP he kind of lived modestly compared to many in congress and took train instead of limos.

And i don't know at this point just being seen as contuion of obama would help him.

Biden was the one who came out and stated baldly that he was in favour of same-sex marriage, putting himself in the dog-house with Obama and the rest of the WH, who were still playing the political games and didn't want to go that far. Like Bernie, Biden says what he believes, and doesn't simply play the politically coy games like Obama or Clinton. He knows how to politic, but he keeps that for Congress, he doesn't turn it on the populace at large.

White house was pissed at biden for coming out for gay marriage and felt he forced Obama to say he was or it would make him look bad if biden could say that and obama didn't.

One thing is he's a better speaker than one of them...

And as far as Obama goes, Joe comes with more experience in the White House than anybody but Obama...

Doesn't experience count as making him different?

And in the Senate, he rode the train home everynight. That sure as hell makes him different...it gives him a real idea of what life is like for many Americans who do the same..

And to be described as a faithful friend who "has my back," are words never said by a President about a Vice President. Has anyone thought about how they appeared together at the arena for the service and eulogy? I thought it was law that the 2 men could never appear in public together at the same time (except WH/Capitol) because of the rule of succession? He is special.

To the extent that some Bernie supporters are primarily motivated by wanting someone other than Hillary, sure, he could take those, But I don't think that's most of Bernie's base. I think Biden would make it much harder for O'Malley, Webb, or Chaffee to have a hope of gaining any traction... of the four of them, Biden would be the strongest "mainstream alternative" to Hillary, but Bernie has a different appeal, he is the "out of the mainstream" alternative, appealing to those who don't want a "traditional" Democrat, which all of these are, compared to him.

was unique in many ways. Whenever someone was chosen for a post by a Republican President, he would criticize the chosen person to a degree that I usually thought he would vote "no" on approval.

But he has explained in the past that he feels that a President should have the people he chooses because he is the President. In the case of Thomas, he did not like him, but voted for him... I remember making supper that night when he stoned Anita Hill, and I was furious with him. But he has changed and probably has learned a lot from Obama, who also voted with Republicans to have peace. That didn't always work either.

No candidate is going to be perfect. Look at the goons the R's are putting up.

He was the first to publically support gay rights ahead of Obama or Clinton. That was on Meet the Press.

He also voted for the war, for the same reason, to show a unified government backing the President (he will no doubt apologize for that vote) if he hasn't already.

Then there was the Neil Kinnock speech (he cribbed it), and those AVMs/brain surgeries.

I like Biden, but I think he's better off as Best Supporting Actor--he's not the one to carry the film to the Academy Awards, as it were....

He'd make a good SECSTATE--he's got a real facility for policy; the trick is to keep him on message, sometimes, but he does know the dirty details....

Sent condolences and told him how happy he would make a lot of people if he ran. Mentioned that CNN told that his sons had urged him to run...

Told him that I still think of his 9/10/01 interview on Larry King and his warnings about terrorism in the US, and that I have admired him ever since.

The planes hit the towers the very next morning, and all I could think of was Joe.

I've been holding off on supporting anyone even though I'd like to because I thought there maybe a chance another D would get in the race and make this more interesting. Sanders is a great senator and has awesome ideas and I've been leaning toward him. If Biden got in the race it would be a tough choice.

I wonder what if anything Beau said to his dad about running this time around before he passed.
