Sanders Calls for Single Payer Health Care: We Need to Join Rest of Industrialized WorldSenator and 2016 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told ABC News George Stephanopoulos Sunday morning that he would move for a Medicare-for-all, single payer health care system, though he acknowledged that this was not an immediately practical goal.
We need to join the rest of the industrialized world, Sanders said. We are the only major country on earth that doesnt guarantee health care to all people as a right, and yet we end up spending much more than they do.
So I do believe that we have to move toward a Medicare for all, single-payer system, Sanders said, adding that he had certainly voted for the ACA. Its not going to happen tomorrow, but that certainly should be the goal.....

Although it got stonewalled by the Republicans back then, didn't it lay the groundwork for Obamacare?

I am hopeful we will reach this goal and lets remember we need to remain vigilant
against the Republicans and all those who fund campaigns to make sure this will not happen in the US.

(6,852 posts)How are you package something matters. Most Americans don't know that Medicare is a single-payer type system. All the Republicans have to do with this stuff and no one will listen. If you say Medicare for all it polls better. Even though it means the same thing

(5,178 posts)No surprise it is an issue for Bernie with all of his great work for our veterans.
I mean, we can't even take care of the ones we have, we strive to make more each day and more insurance will help?
No, health care will help. Medicare for all. Just imagine how much that would slash the VA budget if all the medical was covered, for all Americans, no matter who, what, when or where?
Just imagine how it must feel for a vet on the streets, alone, suffering from PTSD all thanks to those who invest in the war mongers.
All I ask is that the old people sending our young people into harms way to defend corporate profit margins pay to take care of them. I know, heresy.
