2016 Postmortem

Hurrah for Ed.

(41,204 posts)about Bernie and recent polls. Big mistake to take ED off at 5. Last week I heard he might be put in at 3, not sure though- Comcast is doing things their way. A few months ago they got rid of some like Ronan Farrow and moved Chris Jansing to WH reporting.
*Did ED mention Bernie's events in Louisiana?

(12,655 posts)i saw that consultant before. she is unwatchable imo. She's completely delusional and she talks over everybody all the time.
Cleita
(75,480 posts)Then she had some vague reference to federal statistics but couldn't be specific? Ed just looked amazed.

(12,655 posts)i would not be expecting that email he asked her to send with the info

(75,480 posts)He's pro-labor, so anyone who is, is pretty much against these trade agreements because the past have proved them to be bad for labor. The fact that no one really knows what's in these agreements and that they are being conducted behind closed doors seems to point to the fact that billion dollar industries will get the gold mine in these agreements and the working class will get the shaft. Just saying. I don't know why the majority of the nation isn't included in this decision.

(8,175 posts)I thought there were laws in place to keep media companies from being too big too, but apparently not. We need to get Bernie working on this too. These huge mergers and buyouts just keep happening and we all lose because of it.

(57,936 posts)the TELECOMMUNICATIONS ACT that eliminated the most important of those limitations?
[b]BILL CLINTON, THAT'S WHO!
One of the many reasons that I will NEVER, EVER vote for Hillary. NEVER, EVER.
Sold out. Sold out. And willing to sell the American people out.
Didn't take that much intelligence to realize that that Telecommunications Act would poison what was left of our democracy after Reagan got through with it.
And Bill Clinton signed it.
May he feel the shame from this date to eternity. For shame, Bill Clinton.
And Hillary is made of the same stuff when it comes to being able to understand the consequences of signing this bill or that. She proved it with the Iraq War Resolution. She was warned ahead of time by Code Pink that war in Iraq was not the answer. But Hillary ignored that good advice.
And Bill -- the Telecommunications Act is just one of the things he did as president that demonstrated poor judgment if not worse.

(67,782 posts)Was it his show this afternoon or Alex Wagner's show that had the woman who was at the Louisiana rally. She said many people there were republicans who just wanted to see who Sanders is.
I've been saying pretty much the same thing for about 6 weeks, people don't go see him because they're followers or potential followers of of Sanders, they're just curiosity seekers.

(11,945 posts)All the footage I've seen show truly enthusiastic people who cheer where good Dems would cheer.
How does that "sour grapes" story go?
kenn3d
(486 posts)I watched the live feed and I can tell you that entire crowd (@4500 people) was enthusiastic beyond expectations.
Bernie knows that a lot of Red State Democrats quite rightfully feel forgotten and forsaken by all the calculating politicians who have cynically written them off while counting up likely electoral college votes elsewhere.
And plenty of discouraged ever-poorer working class Republican voters are hearing his message too ... be sure of it.
George II

It's all available on-line. I call bullshit on this "theory".
Anyone dedicated enough to go to a rally, is most likely a Bernie enthusiast.
I would never go out of my way to attend a Hillary rally. Just not worth the effort. I see enough on-line already.
Oh, and you may want to check out this thread too.

Now, even if Hillary does get the nomination and not Bernie, Ed would have promoted her candidacy and now his voice will be absent. Is that what you wanted? You can be sure the Toadie won't show her except in the most unflattering way. I can't believe that's what you want.

(95,007 posts)More to the point, canceling a show that was given a weekday slot TWICE was "corporate fascism"?
More to the point, canceling a low-rated show while leaving a bunch of other liberals on the air is "corporate fascism"?
Good to know.

(55,981 posts)like either. Not surprised to see him get the boot. Weird that you are defending MSNBC.
brooklynite
(95,007 posts)...TV shows that nobody watches get cancelled, even if you or I happen to like them. They gave Ed two shots at a weekday slot and he couldn't draw in a crowd.
Meanwhile, MSNBC has plenty of other progressive voices still on the air.

(99,719 posts)The thing that chafes my ass about him is he was a right wing radio show host who changed his politics and ran to television because El Rushbo was handing him his ass in radio ratings.
Cleita
(75,480 posts)Like many people of the era he was anti-tax but it was when the party of Eisenhower became the elitist banker's party that he changed his affiliation. He was still a bit centrist for a long while but has really evolved over the years into a good Democrat. He says himself having to see how the working class lived back then that changed his views. Some people do change. Sometimes they change for the worse like Donald Trump who was actually once a Democrat and liberal.
George II
(67,782 posts)....about 15 minutes a show.
Then...boom.....he started railing against it every single night.
I lost a lot of respect for him when that happened. Not for his position either way but his complete turnaround from one night to the next.
I wonder how much he gets in commission for all the text messages he solicits in his nightly "polls", which serve no purpose?
Cleita
(75,480 posts)Instead he got educated by Jane Kleeb and has been against it ever since, over a year now. I think that speaks for itself.
mwooldri
(10,303 posts)Besides when Mr. Limpballs is on a few thousand stations and Ed is on a handful... who's going to win? In any case progressive talk died... where is Air America now? You have a handful of progressive stations left and they're carrying programming from progressive presenters who weren't really part of Air America anyway.
The only thing I connect Ed and the aforementioned excuse of a radio presenter is that to me they sound a bit alike. That's all.

incorporate new and different ideas and to change their minds? Or are we forever consigned to type as presented in the first ideas we held earlier in life? I hope we are not that rigid.

(486 posts)This show is indeed remarkably opinionated for MSM, and quite optimistic about Bernie's surprising campaign. And yet it's also very refreshing to those who agree with and support this remarkable candidate.
