2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe SCOTUS ACA ruling will no doubt help the President politically.
The Republicans and the media are arguing this ruling will help the GOP since it will fire up their base. Their base is already fired up and is going to vote against the President regardless. The more important effect will be on Independents and moderates who really dont know much about the ACA.
The media is finally covering the details including the good things in the plan and many are paying attention now. Most have only heard the bad things which are mostly exaggerations. Now they know more about the benefits. Furthermore the SCOTUS vote gives the ACA credibility. I suspect many Independants/moderates who were against it before are now for it and are now more likely to vote for the President.

(22,172 posts)People tend to fear what they don't know. What would be the best way to get out the word? Social media, full page newspaper ads for those who still read the paper, etc. Also, maybe the insurance companies will now send more info to subscribers to see how they will benefit from this. Those rebate checks can't hurt either!

(24,689 posts)No doubt the RW will flood the media with anti-ACA ads. We certainly have to do something to balance those attacks.

(308 posts)You may be right that since the law was upheld by the Supreme Court (and a by a Conservative Chief Justice), it now has a legal bi-partisan flavor to it that it did not have as of yesterday.
That may make it more amenable to independents and moderates who were on the fence as to whether to support Obama or not.
CNN political analyst and Harvard Law grad David Gergen just wrote a column about some of the issues you raise:
