(904 posts)Yep, they don't have to pay evil taxes for pesky things like schools, roads, bridges, water, or electricity either. A real bootstraps kinda place.

(27,247 posts)At least they do in British Columbia, and probably in the other provinces as well. But the premiums are very cheap by American standards.

People who are now insured and paying for their insurance will be better off with ACA. Whether you call it a tax or an insurance premium, many people will get much more for their money.
The only bad thing about the bill is that the best parts don't go into effect until 2014. But even now, the health insurance companies are forced to be more transparent about how much of our premiums they really spend on health care. That should help doctors and nurses as well patients.
Insurance companies will pay less for reviewing claims since they will have fewer grounds for excluding them. For example, if you forgot to or didn't realize that you were failing to mention a pre-existing condition on your insurance application, you will probably still be covered although maybe at a higher price, since you cannot be completely denied coverage due to a pre-existing condition (which most people have by the time they are 55).
Also, we get more preventive services -- free. We used to pay for some of those, and everybody should get a primary care doctor although I suspect more of the routine work will be done by nurse practitioners. I'm a little uncertain about that. I don't know whether that is so good, but I have been told by a nurse from another country that it is an international trend.

(33 posts)the bill is either that or the pathway to it, so you folks better be healthy and working out and getting in shape because you cannot rely on the medical system to take care of you now, its up to you, given the wait times you will face and the limits on care you will have, this is from a Canadian who moved from Canada to USA. You better be healthy or your life could be ruined due to long waits or the care you need not being available. especially if you have someone who cares about the budget and is willing to cut medical care to balance it. Basically the only care you will get from the medical system is treatments for something life threatening.

(32,074 posts)Ayn Rand taking advantage of socialized medical care when she died cold and alone in her bed? Without a friend or a lover? Without her little groupies?
If it was good enough for her - why isn't it good enough for the students of her bull- cough cough - I mean philosophy?

(33 posts)you will have a so called right wing person that wants to balance a budget that will cut medical care which will result in what i said so to endure that you do need to be healthy but if you have someone who is so called left and doesn't care about budget than you don't need to worry and you will have more care than.

Why was it good enough for the Woman who pushed objectivism and Individual Rights but not for anyone else?
