A Stronger Obama Emerges From a Few Consequential Weeks

Simon Rosenberg

06.29.2012

'The lasting political impact of these last few weeks will be on the perception of Obama as a leader. We've seen a president these last few weeks; one taking decisive action for the nation. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, has been largely invisible.'

Start your starting point where you choose, but my mind is already set on his leadership.

I dont necessarily agree with everything in the column. I didn't write it. I saw it on the Huffington Post and thought it had a few good points and decided to post it here.

I think what the author is getting at is that Obama is beginning to look more decisive and Presidential compared to Romney. I think the author is right that Obama has been able to get stronger over the past 6 months.

Let's not fool ourselves into saying that Obama has always had high numbers. Remember that in mid to late 2011, Obama was behind Romney in the polls, and had approval ratings in the low 40's. It was looking very bad for his re-election. Those trends reversed themselves over the first half of 2012.

I think politics has degenerated into such a cesspool that some people have (mistakenly?) equated Obama's civility with weakness and his thoughtfulness (as in 'thinking things through rationally') with spinelessness. In my eyes, the President has more brains, character & integrity in his little finger than all the conservatives combined. He has always taken the high road and he always will because that's who he is. That's something conservatives will never understand.

I have been saying about him since day one.

He is one cool cat. His primary battle with Hillary and the race against McCain proved it. His calm during the HCR process proved it. That he was rolling eggs in the white house lawn with kids while special ops were putting bullets into the mellons of Somolian pirates on his order proved it. That no one at the White House corrospondents dinner had a clue that he had ordered the mission to get OBL provided it.

Heck, he is a better man by a LONG mile. I LONG ago would have lost the capacity to be cool about the crape the Rs pull not only to him personally, but to drag the country down to get him. I would be FLAMING those scum bags by now.

but I couldn't find the right words-- it still could use improvement but I think I got my message across. He is very cool yet he's very warm. Not sure how he does it but I think he's one remarkable person. Just think of all he has done!! The repukes are so successful in suppressing the good he's done that even I forget about wonderful and supportive things he's accomplished from the beginning.

who was a truly putrid president, and positively framed him as "resolute" and "a man of conviction" and "he does what he belives in!" when he was perpetually frucking things up.

BO has been INCREDIBLE on foreign affairs, he has been everything they made Bush out to be in actually getting the islamic terrorists. He has been the best president on border security, he stabilized and turned the economy around, he got the first major HCR done since Johnson, after three LONG decades he signed off on a bill forcing automakers to up their gas mileage, he brought more transparency to DC.

He has done it all in the face of a party of opposition that is united like no other time in our history to the sole purpose of destroying him - to the extent that they have actively worked to hamper the country's economic recovery. With a big smile on his face when he has not been stone cold sober when it was appropriate.

He is everything they WANT to say Reagen was.

and I tell people that unabashedly.

The Rs so strongly control the media in this country, people just sort of are stunned to have someone give a cogently positive assessment of him.
