Women on opposite ends of the political spectrum experience misogyny

Hustler's Fake Oral Sex Pic of S.E. Cupp Outrages 'The View' Hosts

A doctored photo in this month's Hustler magazine depicting conservative commentator S.E. Cupp performing oral sex sparked outraged discussion on the ABC show "The View" today.

Whoopi Goldberg, one of the co-hosts of the daytime talk show, said that Cupp, who writes for the New York Daily News, is a "friend of 'The View,'" and that the picture in Hustler "is really going to piss a lot of you women off."

Cupp, 33, appeared in the audience and told the hosts that she was "horrified" when she saw the explicit picture. There was a disclaimer on the page saying that the photo was not real.

Larry Flynt, who published the magazine, said the photo was satirical.

Breitbart.com Blogger And Romney Campaign Invitee Tells Joan Walsh To ‘Suck It’

On Saturday afternoon, Salon.com editor-at-large and MSNBC contributor Joan Walsh had an attack leveled against her that was every bit as vile as the one launched at conservative columnist S.E. Cupp earlier this week, only this sexually-charged swipe wasn’t made by a known pornographer. It was made by a Brietbart.com blogger who was hand-selected by the Romney campaign to attend a secret meeting with the candidate a few weeks ago.

According to several attendees of the meeting, and other published reports, Breitbart.com’s Dan Riehl was among the bloggers who were invited to attend a secret meeting with presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney a few weeks ago, a decision that Riehl’s attack on Joan Walsh casts serious doubt on. Here’s what Riehl tweeted today:

I don’t mind Joan Walsh getting low, but if she’s going to open her mouth, wish she’d do something I might actually enjoy for once!

Responding to another user who said “It’ll never happen,” Riehl replied

“@misslexi9162 I know, but one can always fantasize, right? LOL”

He continued:

I think I may have just discovered the most polite way of telling Joan Walsh to suck on this. lol

&, please, no indignant protestations of any alleged sexist attack. The woman is a pox, not a woman as ive evr considered sum1 2 B 1

For those of us who have been raped, the constant association of sex and violence is really a trigger.
I know, most people would say "no big deal, you are overly sensitive." Try growing up being raped then being raped as an adult, too, and then see how you feel about the threat of sexual violence or a society that pretty much condones it while giving only lip service to trying to stop it.

They just don't get it. Whereas any woman who is a rape or violence survivor, or even a victim of extreme verbal abuse, has a core level knowledge of that horror.

Too sensitive my ass. I have heard suggestions I am too sensitive. My standard comeback to that is "Come back and tell me that after you've been raped."

It did come from the older men, but it was still there. Instead of valid criticism of my positions or actions, they made anti-women remarks. They had no qualms about saying misogynistic things to my face.

Dismissing it because it comes from an older generation does not excuse it. Men have been getting away with this for too long.

our local Democrats are pure class, truly...but the vulgarity, disturbing behavior, and just about all the 'isms' you could want cropped up whenever I had to deal with the D.C. crowd. (The increasing prevalence of 'ringers'--pro political operatives who spent the bulk of their time bouncing around campaigns, often for people higher up the ladder than my representatives--is kinda why I stopped volunteering, actually. A lot of bad experiences with those folks.)

I am a third-generation activist. Being displaced by a doctor's wife who dabbles in politics and a gaggle of hicks was discouraging. There will be other political jobs for me, in more amicable surroundings. When I see it, I will know what it is.

We get our pros here, too. But they are sent by the state party. Some of them are excellent. Some should be tied up in a burlap sack and drowned.

recognize.

i have not been big on staying up in porn. but, i had one thread talking about how online sex was not sex slavery. hubby had been telling me how so many of those women are forced.... behind the scenes. that we cannot know that any of these women or girls are doing it willingly. i hadnt even thought of it like that. so when a poster said online sex tapes was not slavery i googled to try and find an article. well.... when you google forced online sex tapes you do not get articles.... lol. regardless how i shifted the words i got the stuff. i went into one that i thought was actually talking about the issue.

the thing. there are pictures you cannot get out of your mind. they cannot be unseen, ever.

and that was just one accidental slip.

i read an article on a feminist thread today. there were pictures. again, a clue in what is being done to these women.

when so many shrug on this stuff, i wonder how much they are even aware. maybe if they had to go thru and look at the shit, they would not be so blase.

point being. i saw so little and it is clear there is nothing half way redeeming. that it is clearly a disrespect for women.

they know. they do. not. care. from the many many articles i have read, i believe it is 84% of the porn for hetro men is about physically degrading, hurting, abusing the woman. i have read the porn makers say, the porn that is wanted by hetro men must have the submissive, controlled woman. that is what the men want to get off.

and here, i was going to to you. good to see you. instead, you are probably running away, lol

It's good to be here. I haven't posted in the feminist forums before because to be honest I am learning and there are a lot of great threads and people here who know a LOT.

Those images - I know what you mean. I mistakenly saw some pictures a few years ago (do not put "teen" or 'boys" into Google!) and they still pop into my head from time to time. So disturbing.

I think you hit the nail on the head and have seen it in a lot of threads here at DU and other places on the internet. They don't want to know about the pain and hurt that it causes because then they might have to consider changing. Thought and change are hard. This one thread in GD had a silly yahoo article about porn ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002753853 ) and I read it. It was a poorly done piece but the intriguing thing was all of the comments below the article. Do NOT come between many American men and their porn! Holy hell - the misogyny and vitriol was thick! I made a few comments but got the typical "femi nazi", "you must be an old, fat cow" kind of comments in return. Oh and I am glad to see that you posted that article about the myth that men are so much more visual than women in another thread. I tried to convince a couple of people that women are more visual than they think and have heightened overall senses but it was no cigar.

Thanks for all the info - it is helping to open up a bigger world for me.

neurological proof men are not more visual how it is all crickets. how you hear nothing. there was so much noise around me when i read the article. finally, something made sense of it. but, crickets. some women will actually respond to it. you being one. but, even most women wont. they need that excuse, this is what men are, understand men, just more vsual, biological. they have to have a place to put the disrespect from men behavior. if it is biological, then men can not help themselves. so, it really is not a disrespectful thing. if women dont have to do it, and women are as biological, then what does it say about their man

another study (or more) is men place the woman as a tool, to be used. both genders will do with a woman, neither will do with a man. really suggests social conditioning in my book.

another study is when men look at porn for an hour, and then place them in teh work environment, the invade a womans space, where they dont if they had not looked at the porn.

there was something else your post had triggered for a response. out of the head. poof. probably come back tomorrow with a .... oh ya.

oh, remember. and then hearing the kids (22, 20 yr old men) saying how obsession with porn has ruined sex for them with a real woman or they cant get it up anymore without porn. or in the thread, men admitting to that. geeeez. i have two boys. i dont want them to fall into this. i WANT then to have a hell of a lot of fun in their sex life. it is scary.

specifically about the excuses that are used by both men and women regarding men's behavior. The thought that maybe they don't want to control their impulses or have to respect women is too much for some. "boys will be boys" and all that b.s.

It's easier to abuse and misuse a tool than a human being. The thought that those women in porn or sex workers are actual human beings might make it difficult to come to terms with how they are treated.

That study about viewing porn and then men entering women's work spaces freaks me out. I don't know why except that it is so aggressive and frankly creepy. I think most if not all women can recall times they've felt threatened by a guy's aggressive demeanor, invading our space. yuck.

I have a 22 y.o. daughter and I also think about how she has been treated by boyfriends and hope that things go well for her and her current bf. The thought that some men so young are already becoming desensitized to this crap is scary. How will they have "normal" or I guess I should say healthy relationships in the future? The thrill of instant gratification becomes an addiction and when they actually have to work for a relationship it becomes not worth the effort to some, I guess. I am hopeful for your two sons too. I think they have great role model(s) though.

for a person to see a human being and use them like a tool. unless there is something else going on in the brain. that is the reason in war we dehumanize the other person. make them non human. so our soldiers can kill them. that will also be the reason you have so many other war crimes that disgust us. like the torture and pictures and the mass rapes. these are not human beings. we do the same with porn, or prostitution, or the stripper. most people cannot think of her as a human being and use her as a tool, at the same time.

and that is why they no longer respect the space of a woman in the work space. their brain had been conditioned that these were not human beings. things to be used. so they had every right to invade that space and not respect the woman.

my husband owned a business. there was one man that creeped me out. i would regularly walk past his office and out of courtesy have to say hello and chat for a minute. i hated it. i hated the feel of him. when hubby eventually fired him and went thru to clean his computer, he found over 2000 porn pictures. creeps me out all the more to know he was sitting at his desk, some womans leg spread in front of his face, and i had to stand their and interact with the creep.

hubby also found a letter to his wife and son. telling them he didnt think they were respectful enough for him. and the deacons of the church say... and she needed to.... yada yada yada.

all around creep

another poster and i were talking in this thread, this is why i am putting this, in this thread. something my husband was telling me that i had not thought of. he was reading about how a lot of this porn put on the net, we have no idea about the behind the scene actions. the girl, there with a smile, we think she does it willingly. or, in "play" fear, being tied and abused, we think she does this willingly. but why? why would we assume she is willing. with all the abuse toward women, and especially the young, inexperienced girl (the type of woman that men that prey on women go for), why wouldnt i have thought about all the easy abuses that are out there. giving men a huge audience for abuse of women.

the porn dude that did ugly for film and put on the net for others to watch. honestly, i have not read the story. i am so fuckin tired of the ugly. just been following the headlines.
