Proposal to establish a truce with the other group

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Robb (a host of the Gun Control Reform Activism group).

In HOF, we have an agreement to not use the group to make derogatory comments about the men's group, which is pretty much adhered to. Both groups step over the line once in a while, but we try not to use the forums as Meta like complaint sessions.

I wonder if it might not be wise for hosts of this group to arrange a similar armistice with RKBA. We would ask them to desist from calling out our group and we would promise to do the same. That might also cut down on efforts to disrupt the group.

What do you all think?

make no promises now.

but people here should focus on our own issues and use the safe haven for what it helps us do:

1) identify flawed NRA type talking points and propaganda (without making this group a Meta about gun logic on the rest of DU, which i don't think will be helpful in the long run, but i think it would be a mistake to create a rule on it)

2) support gun control in many different, effective and reasonable forms --or in whatever form can be argued constructively

3) support mass non violence as a response to violence and crime, overall, allowing for exceptions, in contrast to thinking that gun violence can be quelled with more guns, bigger guns, more firing capacity without reloading, etc.

4) support gun control or related issues to protect the environment from contamination

5) support gun control or related measures to make sure those that do use weapons don't contaminate their homes and their children with lead residue.

to be hosted on DU. Because honestly, that's pretty close to the truth.

Not all, but a large fraction of gungeoneers are outright trolls who get a kick out of posting right-wing talking points on a Democratic forum. And I'm speaking from personal experience -- I've spent some time arguing the progressive side of the issue, and looking back many of the people I was arguing with have since been banned from DU.

This forum is what the gungeon should have been from the beginning: a place for progressives to discuss what to do about gun violence in America. The gungeoneers are going to continue trolling, whether or not we declare an official "truce". In fact, a large part of what goes on in there is deriding "gun grabbers" and the "nanny state" and so on. That's not going to stop.

IMO, the admins made a mistake in allowing too much leeway for right-wing opinions on guns, which, combined with the fact that militant gun fanatics are a very vocal community, led us to where we are now. If the admins had allowed multiple points of view on, say, gay rights, or on abortion, I think we'd have a forum full of single-issue right-wingers posting homophobic or anti-choice talking points.

No.

Follow DU's ToS everywhere, GCRA's SoP here. The rest is unnecessary drama; there is work to do. Locking.
