Reporting in the Bernie Group -For Group Violations

Last edited Fri Jul 24, 2015, 09:07 AM - Edit history (3)

Please help the hosts out.

There is no way to report to group hosts on replies. With Senator Sanders becoming more and more popular, we can expect more and more posters coming to disrupt threads, I am afraid.

Often times people may not realize they're not in GD/GD-P. In that case, a warning will usually suffice. I believe that the majority of people on DU respect the group's SoP. However, occasionally, that's not the case

If you see a reply that you feel violates the SoP of the group, but not worthy of going to a jury, please do the following:

Alert on the OP with the "This discussion thread is off-topic, or violates the Statement of Purpose for this group" This option is not available for replies.

If your alert is for a reply and not for the OP, make sure you note in the comments, that you are
NOT alerting on the OP and put the reply number you want looked at by the hosts.

This will send an email to the hosts. It won't go to a jury. That way, the hosts that are online will be able to look at the issue without you having to go to each host to find out if they're around.

You can't alert on your own OP though. So you will have to do it via private message.

We try to monitor everything but we're growing daily. Already over 29,000 posts in the group!

Thanks to merrily for this great idea!

Finally, if you want the post to go to a jury, by all means, alert normally.

Thanks everyone! #GoBernie #Bernie2016

On edit: we discovered that the alert does NOT go to the author of the OP.

Skinner fixed the issue when only one alert can be sent on an OP. All alerts now go through to the hosts. But remember, you can't alert on your own OP.

I believe that if an OP has been sent to a jury, however, you will only receive a "send message to Administer" instead of the alert options."

Thanks for all your cooperation. This has been extremely helpful to us hosts!

I have been poking around the internet and have seen DU quoted. It searches very high in search engines. Once Bernie gets more press it will get drowned out, but it disturbs me to think recent threads will spread to the wider web and be picked up as fact somewhere.

I was wondering what hosts and members thought about the idea of posters making Bernie threads primarily in the Bernie group. I know some people do that, but maybe talking about it will put it on the radar for some who aren't used to doing it that way. It seems like with other groups, to gain visibility, you post in both the group and GD. But because the Bernie group is so large, you don't need to do that. Sanders group tops the greatest page every day. And it will cut down on the crazy talking points. Just a thought that could cut down on the stress of everyone involved. Since most people have picked a side, it might be better to give it a rest for a while. Neutral, respectful people could post wherever they wanted. But the ongoing viciousness is not good for anyone. Both sides feel that way. It may just change people's habits. I know I peruse the Sanders group much more where I used to always just click the greatest tab. I can see from today's threads in the HRC Group that they are feeling attacked. But pro Bernie threads only, no HRC threads.

Anyway, it's no big deal, just a thought. I do think it's interesting that for the most part, the same people who agreed on issues are now supporting the same chosen candidate. This is a nice group and I like it.

But I don't think it's always good to be in the bubble. If we could trust that discussions would be civil, it wouldn't matter. Unfortunately, we can't.

But we also can't have an honest discussion with people who don't support Sanders if we do nothing but post here. Some of the decent HC supporters won't comment in here just to be respectful. I know I won't reply on anything in the HC group for the same reason, even though the replies would be respectful. Sort of a catch 22 in that regard

But, yeah, some of shit in GD is pretty bad

Bernie is going to be on in a few minutes! !

I have been able to post in the Clinton group, even though I admit I support Sanders. Of course, I'm very careful not to say anything bad, rude, insensitive, etc. about Clinton. A couple people questioned me, but nobody threw me out. That's better than the Obama group.

What I'm going to relate doesn't technically violate the above protocol, but I feel that it violates the spirit of DU....

Just made the following post in our group entitled 'We Did It' - reports that Sanders and Clinton are now in a dead heat in NH....

One member from the Hillary camp sent me a private msg about that post reminding me that Sanders may not get on the primary ballot in NH...My response was the following as I paraphrase...."sorry if you feel threatened it's not for me to decide whether or not Sanders gets on the NH primary ballot...But I think the poll results are telling of the strength of Sanders' candidacy as well as the power of his message."

And I think it was good they didn't come here to say it as it. However, you posted here so you wouldn't have to deal with that.

You can alert on a PM, ignore it or respond as you did, I think what you did was the best way to handle it

I don't have a problem with facts that are corrected but this is a safe haven to support Sanders. Criticism of him, constructive or not, is not really supporting.

Obviously, it depends on what is said, sometimes by whom and what the real motivation is.

It was a reply to an OP that was clearly racist. It did not to the jury - the moderators took the whole thing off.

But, yeah, as FOR Bernie as I am, if he loses the primary, I will be voting Dem in the GE. No problem there.

It's just that we have this widening chasm between the Third Way Dems and the rest of us - I like to think of the rest of us as 'New Dealers.'

This is what I'm seeing - the New Dealers have gotten tired of the Third Way and they are starting to stand up and be noticed. And Bernie has done an absolutely tremendous job of elevating the dialog. It is fortunate, I think, because it is no longer possible now for us to go back to the same Third Way dominance.
