(17,997 posts)And why doesn't he have secret service people? I really thought presidential candidates had at least a couple. It's wonderful he takes time for the people but this is a little disconcerting to me

(15,480 posts)The contrast between Bernie and HRC couldn't be starker. Here's a reminder of the conditions HRC puts into her contracts for her lucrative speeches. This one refers to the $225,000 speech contract with the UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas) Foundation
Clinton also agreed to a 30-minute photoline, which will take place before her remarks. But strict rules apply to it as well.
It is not to exceed 50 photos with up to 100 people, the contract reads.
It is understood and agreed that the photographer will take one (1) photo of each person or couple participating in the photoline. It is understood and agreed that the Sponsor will provide each of the photoline attendees with a copy of the photo to their personal use only. The Sponsor is also required to communicate to the photoline attendees that the photo is for private, personal use only and that the photo cannot be used in any way to imply any kind of endorsement of an entity, individual, product or service. Any use of the photo that suggests or implies any such endorsement is forbidden.
The Washington Post published details of a similar contract between Clinton and Buffalo University on Wednesday. Clinton is charging the school $275,000 for that event.

So if a HRC fan was able to get a photo, they would not be allowed to post it on DU.

(17,997 posts)Bernie is definitely more fun. More in touch. And certainly more real.

(15,480 posts)Here in my neck of the woods - Pittsburgh/Allegheny County, we just had a really one-sided primary battle for the office of County Auditor. Pgh/Alleg. Cty. have been dominated by an old-boy Democratic party apparatus for many decades. In 2012, the voters elected an ethical, very intelligent and competent woman, Chelsa Wagner to be the Auditor. She saw herself as serving the citizens, not the old boy machine, and had the temerity to catch the good-ole-boy county executive (highest elective office in the county) with his ethical/legal pants down re using county property for personal use. He had to cough up $45,000 to settle that "oversight". Well, hell hath no fury like an old machine poll publicly humiliated, so he ordered his various administrative units to refuse to provide her the information required for her audits. Those battles are being fought out in the courts.
Comes the primary for the next 4 year term, and he brought in and supported a former enemy of his, but also a white male old-boy machine hack. The County Party also endorsed the hack. So here's what I mean by one-sided. They outspent Ms. Wagner at least 4 to 1; smeared her with outrageous, unsubstantiated claims and lies for months - but guess what! The voters elected her in the primary (no GOP even on the ballot next fall - so she's basically re-elected). The voters understood that when you have one party rule, you need an auditor who is a watch dog, not a lap dog. Not only did the county exec's lap dog lose, but so did nearly all of the others dems endorsed by said county exec but opposed by other dems in the primary. AND, while the county exec was unopposed on the primary ballot, he received 20,000 less votes than did other unopposed dems on the ballot. In other words, the voters said screw the old machine and all the money they threw into advertising; we'll decide for ourselves.
My point? HRC can throw her corporate billions into massive advertising and making deals with the establishment Democratic leaders, but she cannot shut up social media.
I predict the good Democrats of southwestern PA will choose Bernie over HRC, no matter how much the local Democratic party committee may be paid off to endorse her.
I am sure that you are correct.
Thanks for the hopeful information!
