Sanders Statement on Trade Bill

Friday, June 12, 2015
WASHINGTON, June 12 – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) issued the following statement after the House scuttled a trade bill:

“As one of the Senate leaders in the fight against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, I applaud the House of Representatives for the vote today. While the fight will no doubt continue, today’s vote is a victory for America’s working people and for the environment. The trade deal pushed by corporate America and Wall Street is the continuation of disastrous trade policies which have cost us millions of decent-paying jobs as large corporations shut down in this country and move to low-wage countries abroad. We need a new approach to trade, an approach which benefits the working families of our country, and not just the CEOs of multi-national corporations. The House vote is an important step in the right direction."

And I am sure it will go like this...We need to create new jobs with trade that protects the environment while creating new opportunities...you know the drill.

Even if that isn't the case, it should be defeated.

This is more a statement on what the House did...with a general rundown of what he thinks of it and what should be done.

I'm sure we'll hear more complete opinions on the bill as the election approaches..... from all candidates.

I also think there might be a little tongue and cheek here....because I'm sure the House is not "scuttling" it for the good of workers and the environment. (Y'know....the verb "to scuttle" means to run across the floor hurriedly. Is that what they did with the bill? Yes, I know it also means to deliberately let something fail.)

The definition of Scuttle before you just started rambling?

Scuttle:
1.
sink (one's own ship) deliberately by holing it or opening its seacocks to let water in.
deliberately cause (a scheme) to fail.
"some of the stockholders are threatening to scuttle the deal"

The word you are defining is SCURRY.

And

Scuttle (2)

verb (used without object), scuttled, scuttling.
1.
to run with quick, hasty steps; scurry.
noun
2.
a quick pace.
3.
a short, hurried run.

Did YOU bother to check before accusing me of being lazy?

I wouldn't normally toot my own horn, but this once, I hope that people will read this and criticize what they disagree with.

It is important that we be able to explain to our families and friends what is wrong with these trade deals. They endanger our entire democracy (to the extent it hasn't already been destroyed).
