Bernie Sanders
Related: About this forumAttended a volunteer meeting for "Bay Area for Bernie" today at the SF main library
(See here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/128023035)
It was great! 100+ people in attendance, and the crowd seemed like a good cross-section of the area's demographics, so while there were more white men than any other group, everyone had at least two people representing them. It started with some talks by various organizers, then we broke up into groups based on region. Those smaller groups are planning meetups on their own as well.
I was in the San Francisco group, and we have planned a meetup on the 22nd at 6pm in that mall on Market Street. I'll share the info as I get it if anyone is interested. We mostly just brainstormed about events where we could setup tables and things, but the main purpose was getting people signed up and we will be planning and doing more over time. I recommended including voter registration forms along with the other handouts. The SF group was around 30 people. We'll be getting emails once they compile our info.
They did a brief, amusing skit about what NOT to say if you're out there campaigning for him, like screaming about revolution or describing him as evil Hillary's opponent
Oh, the group's website: http://bayareaforbernie.com/
They will be posting pictures and things on their site.
I have no idea what I can contribute to this, but I will at least contribute my presence at future events, and see what else I can do!

(4,081 posts)If they are not registered-they can't vote! And suggest to people that if they are not currently registered as dem that they may want to consider reregistering as a democrat for the primaries!
Try to have a friend go with you, teams are good for moral support and safety and to make it more fun.
First work apartments so you can get more people in a shorter time frame.
Also senior housing areas if they allow it.
And coordinate with other groups so you know who is working regiistration where.

(22,271 posts)Each state has it's own rules regarding who can vote in each party's primaries. In California (the OP is from S.F.), you can vote in California's primary if you are, a) a registered Democrat or b) registered as No Party Affiliation (formerly Decline to State). Some states have closed primaries (in which case they will have to register as a Democrat in order to vote in the primaries), other states have open primaries and still other states have a mixture. There is a Pinned article in this Group that has links to each state and what their requirements are.
This is a big deal because many possible Bernie supporters will NOT re-register as a Democrat in order to vote in the Democratic Primaries but we might be able to get them to re-register as No Party Affiliation.

(57,936 posts)I will have to find some other way. You have to sign in. I don't know what to do to sign in. I learned computer use and word processing very easily. But the internet as it now exists just is very uncomfortable for me. I will see if I can find something on Facebook.
But all the same, thanks for the link. And now I have the idea to try something on Facebook. Really appreciate your help.

People came up with lots of events and locations we could attend and hand out things, etc. I'll share the list when I get it!

I'm always at that event, it's excellent, outside in a downtown park.
Also the Coalition For Grassroots Progress is in this area and is solidly on Bernie's side. Definitely check them out.

(62,325 posts)are amazing. PeopleForBernie is a great group. I like your suggestion of signing people up to vote. Bernie's main constituency is going to be people who are sick and tired of the same old politics, the negative campaigning, the money in politics, and it is a huge potential voting bloc.
Thanks for letting us know about this. I can see this growing and growing to the point where Bernie may just get his 'political revolution', without Corporate Money.

(38,613 posts)The speakers today did mention that this can't be a one-election thing, it has to be ongoing, and especially has to pay attention to what's happening locally
