As the sun began to set on the hottest day of a New York heat wave, a group of about 60 people crowded into a dark, scantily air-conditioned Bushwick loft, their gazes directed toward a wrinkled bed sheet that had been pressed into service as a screen.
I apologize for how hot it is in here, said host Steve Panovich, who stood beneath the bed sheet glistening with sweat.
Feel the burn, man! yelled a guy in the perspiring crowd. But what he meant was Bern, as in Bernie Sanders. The gathering wasnt one of the usual parties that 36-year-old Panovich, a member of local art punk band The Library Is on Fire, usually throws at his home. It was one of the 3,500 events held across the United States on Wednesday night, organized by supporters of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
These nationwide meetings held in coffee shops, businesses and apartments from Fargo, N.D., to Sanders native Brooklyn were meant to kick off local volunteer efforts for the independent socialist senators Democratic presidential campaign. Other events in New York included a teach in co-hosted by Carlen Altman, an actress who has appeared in the Web show High Maintenance, and singer Tennessee Thomas, at her shop and event space Deep End Club. Earlier that afternoon, Sanders had tweeted that more than 100,000 people had RSVPed to an event. <snip>

I knew this is where I'd find all the cool Progressives! Nice to see everyone again.
I didn't see this great article posted in here, so thought I'd share. Enjoy!

(3,128 posts)There were at least 2 in Paso, at least one in Arroyo Grande (someone said there were two), and others in the other "five cities." This is in conservative San Luis Obispo County, California!
In San Diego, one party had over 500 people (San Diego is also somewhat conservative).
The revolution was livestreamed and tweeted

(10,558 posts)It is ferociously cute. Comes in a box with an air-hole in the side and a warning on the bottom: "If you are reading this either you are under the box or the box is upside down and the Bear inside is getting a headache!"

(10,558 posts)That said, I got mine via a different route. A month or so back Free Speech TV held it's summer fund drive, I contributed via The Thom Hartmann Show. (Got more stuff coming still). My Bernie Bear has a "Brunch With Bernie" button on instead of the "Bernie 2016" button depicted. He came in the mail yesterday and I couldn't wait to show him off. The Post Master adored him, (knew who Senator Sanders was of course), and a few moments after that I took him over to my Veterinarian's where he got more fawning over!
