Bernie Sanders

If you have Facebook please ask them why no coverage.
They slobbered all over Rubio and Cruz but nothing for Bernie. Gee I wonder why....

What more do you want? They've been covering this story for DAYS now. Here--more links, and these aren't all of them:
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/28/politics/bernie-sanders-2016-election-announcement/
http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2015/04/30/who-is-bernie-sanders-origwx-bw.cnn
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/29/politics/gallery/bernie-sanders-political-career/index.html
It's fine to complain when they don't cover a story, but they're covering this one.
Dawgs
(14,755 posts)And, that's what matters.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Maybe you should adjust your settings--or direct yourself towards the "POLITICS" portion of their site. I pulled up CNN.com, scrolled down to the POLITICS section, and lo-and-behold, this link was about the third or fourth one down:
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/29/politics/bernie-sanders-announces-presidential-run/index.html
I think the problem might be operator error. They ARE covering the story.
Dawgs
(14,755 posts)Bernie "all the time" has nothing to do with it.
And, scrolling down to the bottom and finding a mention under the politics section is not "covering the story" like it should be.
Any crazy Republican's face would be plastered all over their front page today.
He's being shut out by the media and I think we all know why.
MADem
(135,425 posts)He's not under TECH, he's not under SPORTS, he's not under DAILY DISTRACTIONS. He's under POLITICS--which is where he belongs.
The overall page headline is WHAT HAPPENED TO FREDDY GRAY? with video. You do realize, don't you, that the report on Mr. Gray's death was JUST released? That CNN has reporters in the streets in Baltimore covering this story? LIVE?
Are you SERIOUSLY criticizing them for covering breaking news about the murder by the police in Baltimore and the issuance of the report regarding that murder? Really? I think they're to be commended for not glossing over the issue of police brutality in an American city torn by riots. What would you prefer? A cutesy biography of Bernie with a bunch of film clips? Or an investigation of an ongoing story about the police killing black men in America, and Freddy Gray specifically?
I think your priorities are out of whack. Social justice can't wait. A Presidential announcement that has--as the links I have provided proved--already been covered six ways to Sunday doesn't need to be reiterated over and over again to make it "more real."
When they go back to regular rotation of news stories, and not in-depth coverage of this breaking story, he'll get his propers.
If he were ACTUALLY being shut out by the media, you wouldn't be able to see all of the stories I provided in this thread from "CNN who isn't covering him."
I mean, really...??
Dawgs
(14,755 posts)That same picture of Freddy Gray was on their front page ALL FUCKING MORNING. I told you already that I've been looking at it all day. You're just wrong.

MADem
(135,425 posts)And then I went to the website for the same reason.
They were (still are) LIVE in Baltimore. Do you have any idea what is going on there?
It was --and IS-- BIG news. An American city where a huge portion of the population are unemployed has been torn apart by riots. Those riots stemmed from the brutal murder of a black man at the hands of imported police who have no connection to the neighborhoods.
If you're actually concerned about one of Sanders' signature complaints--that of INCOME INEQUALITY--what is happening in Baltimore is a petri dish of that concept. They are actually COVERING the story, talking about Baltimore, Ferguson, and why we're seeing reactions in the street against the very things that Sanders also concerns himself with.
I can't believe you are apparently RESENTFUL that they are covering this story "ALL FUCKING MORNING." They should cover it ALL FUCKING MONTH. Maybe then we'd see some changes made. I mean --really, you said this shit?
DAMN. You don't even understand what Sanders' campaign is all about, based on those comments.
They just released the report on Gray's death.
But, here's the deal -- apparently as soon as Bernie got done with Andrea Mitchell at MSNBC, he hopped in a car and went over to CNN for a pretty interesting interview over there. He talked about that "income inequality shit" that was at the root of the Baltimore riots.
Sanders was IN THE STUDIO with Blitzer and it was an insightful conversation. I'm sure they'll put it up on their website along with the rest of the coverage that no one seems to be able to find, save me.

MADem
(135,425 posts)The rudeness in your post is absolutely breathtaking.
Who's "defending the media?" I turned on CNN and they were covering Baltimore. What, you're saying that they shouldn't cover the murder of a black man in an economically barren neighborhood? On the date when the report about his death was being issued?
You do realize this is precisely the sort of issue that has sharpened Senator Sanders' complaints about economic equality and unequal application of justice?
No--apparently you don't get it.

He said he isn't sure whether Sanders meets the state's requirement to be on the presidential ballot.
"If they're going to run in the primary, they have to be a registered member of the party," Gardner told CNN. "Our declaration of candidacy form that they have to fill out says 'I am a registered member of the party.'"

Speaking of "mean spirited posts" your accusations against me are more than mean-spirited--they are rude and uncivil. Not "Democratic." Not "progressive." Just nasty, exclusionary, and accusatory. I certainly won't stoop so low as to treat you the way you've treated me here.

(135,425 posts)Or are you just someone who is deeply invested in alienating those who are supportive of Senator Sanders' run for office?
Because that IS what you're doing with your repeated accusations against me.
You apparently don't know the meaning of "mean-spirited" either, judging by your repetitious use of the phrase while embodying the very characteristics of it with your remarks.
smokey nj
(43,853 posts)You've made fun of supporters in your posts and accuse Bernie Sander's of making deals. This would not be acceptable in the HRC Supporters Group, we deserve the same courtesy. I'm not going to argue with you any further.

(135,425 posts)heart or mind, quite plainly.
I have not "made fun of supporters" at all--that's just a blatant untruth. You don't have the right to tell falsehoods about my comments, and that is what you are doing. That kind of thing is rude, uncivil, and makes DU suck.
You are looking for an enemy, and it ain't me. And if you want courtesy, you need to cut out the name calling, stop mischaracterizing my comments, stop trying to paint me as nefarious, and maybe you'll get some.
I'm not "arguing" with you at all. I simply will not let false statements about what I say and what my motives are stand. Sorry if you don't like that, but don't expect me to back down when you get "uncivil." Ain't happening.

MADem
(135,425 posts)Please see my comments, below.
MADem
(135,425 posts)and you will see. Blitzer asked him if he would run as a Democrat, and he did not say "YES." He said he would run "within the framework and principles..." or something on those lines. It was a very PLAIN dodge.
There's nothing wrong with dodging a question--but don't be a Happy Happy Glad Glad cheerleader that pretends things don't happen when they do. And that DID happen. When the interview goes up on the web you will VERY plainly see it.
I also said NOTHING about "laughing at supporters." That was just a flat out false statement by you. Why you want to make things up about me, I have no idea, but let me tell you--I do not appreciate it.
You will probably be disappointed to learn, too, that Senator Sanders said some very complimentary things about Senator Clinton. He called her a friend for over 25 years. He refused to take the bait when WB tried to get him to say something bad about her.
But hey--I guess that doesn't suit your obvious desire to paint me as a "cage match" type.
One more time--I accuse Senator Sanders of NOTHING. I point out what he said. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more going on here than meets the eye. If you don't like that, fine, you don't have to like it--but you have a lot of nerve trying to mischaracterize my comments.
You really should introspect. You might also learn how to give a little of that "courtesy" you are griping about.
You aren't winning any converts to your cause by beating up people who welcome Sanders to the fray.
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)I didn't see that anywhere?!?
I don't think you are trolling.
MADem
(135,425 posts)I turned on CNN because--and only because--of the OP complaint. Lo and behold, in comes Senator Sanders giving a live interview to Blitzer. It was an interesting and wide-ranging conversation--not overly long, but not short, either. He did dodge the "Are you running as a Democrat" question, and that surprised me, particularly given all the conversation about this yesterday. Make no mistake though--he was "dodging" or "parsing" -- he did not give Blitzer a direct response to the question that Blitzer asked.
I have theories about why he may be parsing, and they involve a long-range strategy, but I'll save those for another day. I need to hear more from him about this, and see what his FEC filing and his state petitions look like.

(135,425 posts)I've also been an Obama supporter for a long time--and many Obama and Hillary supporters are like Hammer and Tongs.
That's not my way. I like good arguments, and smart politicians with bold ideas.
It doesn't bother me that Senator Sanders has an (I) after his name, and I'm interested to see how he's going to make that work without changing party registration (which -- in the interview, as I noted -- he parsed/dodged the question of party changing). I am wondering if he's come to some sort of accommodation with the DNC. We'll know as soon as we see his FEC filings and his state petition documents.
I probably won't change my mind and vote for him, but one never knows. I never thought I'd cast a vote for Barack Obama, but I did. And I went on to support him strongly in his subsequent election.
