Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumSex harassment/assault allegations against any of the candidates
For ALL of the Democratic Party candidates, I'm disregarding any and all allegations of sexual harassment, abuse, or assault. If the so-called accusers were not offended enough to file charges or report it or mention it to the press BEFORE the candidate entered a Presidential race, then I call out any allegations as being politically motivated, as far as I'm concerned.

(3,259 posts)I am a firm believer in always listening to the woman/man. Then have a little patience. Then form an opinion.
One extremely good reason someone might come forward at a time like this is the disgust of seeing someone who has hurt you so badly now living on the TV day after day. Going for one of the most powerful positions in the world. I believe this is why a number of women came out with their stories about Trump when they did.
Your standard is unfair.... and worse.
I say that as respectfully as possible because I know your motives aren't bad.

(37,648 posts)Their game is just stepped up, now.
It's too late, as far as I'm concerned. If they are serious, they should report it to the police, who will investigate and charge the candidate with a crime, if there is evidence. Otherwise, this is just political.
Note the difference between the current kissing-of-the-heads allegations and sexual assault (against Pete...now known to be false), and Dr Moore re Kavanaugh. Moore was a minor at the time, and she had reported the incident to one or more friends near the time of the incident and years before the Kavanaugh hearing. SO HER REPORT OF IT WASN'T NEW, and she had been a minor.
My standard is fair, IMO. As someone who has been raped and harassed before on several occasions, I can certainly empathize with victims. This M.O. isn't what real victims do, IMO. Wait until a wealthy, famous person becomes wealthier or more famous or enters the national arena...and then does a TWEET or goes on a political talk show or calls a reporter. That's so obvious, like it was for Franken.
I'm not going to give any such future attempts any of my time, and they certainly won't affect my vote. And that's for any candidate, whether I support him or not.
But if anyone has indeed had a crime committed against him or her, I urge them to report it to the police asap, so an investigation can be done, and the perp arrested, if there's evidence. If the goal is to protect others, or to have the perp held accountable.

(37,648 posts)Franken's accusers should NOT have been automatically believed, and an elected official booted out of office, against the wishes of the electorate in MN. Never questioned, never testified under oath or by affidavit...not even crimes. Yet, automatically believed, and the will of hte people thwarted, and a career ruined. Pretty nifty trick, if you can swing it. And a Republican (who herself had grabbed a man's behind on video) had started it not long after Franken had been successful in going after Sessions in a hearing. No coincidence.
One S CT Justice nominee's ONE credible accuser of a SERIOUS offense against a MINOR, WHO DID IN FACT REPORT IT TO FRIENDS NEAR THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, and again years later is not the same as multiple allegations for long ago offenses, most of which were not serious, against MULTIPLE men who (no coincidence) happen to have recently entered the race for the Democratic candidate for the Presidency. It's pretty obvious it would be politically motivated, like the Franken events.
The allegation against Mayor Pete has been shown to be false. Yet, it may have done damage, and hasn't gone away yet. The kissing-of-the-heads allegations made against Biden by unknowns (to females who that didn't offend) or by a female he knew who had recently been working for a Biden opponent...pretty obvious.
I speak only for myself, of course. I'm going to ignore ALL of these cases. As a female who has been raped and harassed several times, I am the one who is offended by these allegations for political reasons. Enough is enough, for me.

(102,580 posts)any conclusions immediately after initial stories/announcements.
Taking a person's story seriously does NOT equate to unquestioned and automatic belief sans any time for their story to be fully told, examined and/or rebutted. Nor should it equate to unconditional denial before any examination has occurred.
That's where #MeToo got it wrong. Equating believing unconditionally with a policy of taking all accounts seriously and giving a fair hearing. The two are not synonymous.

(37,648 posts)It's too late to accuse someone now, for me. They need to make their accusations of events happening years ago, before the person entered a Presidential race. It's too late. It's pretty obvious what these late in the day accusations are about: harming a candidate's chances.
If they insist on alleging something, they need to report it to the police, who will investigate. If there's enough evidence, they'll charge him with a crime. If the accusers don't do that, but instead do a tweet or call a reporter or appear on a political talk show, that's pretty obvious to me.
Maybe they'll get traction with some, but not with me.
