Want to Know What Biden's Stands on Issues Look Like?

Do you want to get a good view on his positions on important issues? Easy. Just go to this link:

https://democrats.org/about/party-platform/

That's the official Democratic Party Platform, adopted in 2016. There will be a new one in 2020, but this is the most current platform. You can figure that Joe Biden agrees with it almost entirely. He'll let you know if he doesn't, I'm sure, and will add details during his campaign. Joe Biden is a Democrat. He believes in the Democratic Party Platform.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Bank bailouts hurt so many. Through that era, Democrats lost about 1000 seats across the country. I want a candidate who can commit to actual people, not virtual people like corporations.

So I am seeking facts and commitments from candidates, as well as their plan for dealing with Republican Senate, and Judiciary. I want to see the ability to think strategically and a lot more than just running against Trump-especially since there may be a new Republican candidate-one quite different from Trump.

Candidates and political parties, like generals, may get all geared up to fight the last war-when we are in very different circumstances.

So far I understand that only one candidate has addressed global climate change (Inslee)-yet this is probably one of the biggest issue facing us.

I need more facts than a candidate or a candidate's supporters telling me to just look at a party platform from three years ago and assume the candidate supports it.

than that front-runner. They're playing catch-up. Joe Biden announced and immediately became the front-runner. There's one simple reason for that. People think he can beat Donald Trump. They're not so sure about the rest of the candidates. So, those other candidates have to talk a lot about their issues and positions, because they'll have a hard time convincing people they can win next November.

One of those other candidates will probably end up as the VP nominee. Other current candidates may end up with cabinet posts. Right now, I favor a Biden/Harris ticket, with some of the other primary candidates winning appointments to things like Treasury Secretary (Warren, perhaps), and others getting appointments to positions suited to their talents and expertise.

Right now, Joe Biden doesn't have to detail his positions. He will, anyhow, but he can campaign in other ways for the moment. Everywhere he goes, he talks about issues. He'll keep doing that, no doubt. But, he can also work on popularity and electability in his campaigning. That's what's going to get him the nomination. That's what voters want - someone who can beat Trump, despite his crooked campaigning strategies.

Well here it is an excellent sample from President Obama..

In A Surprise Send-Off, Obama Awards Biden Presidential Medal Of Freedom

snip//

Calling the former longtime Delaware senator "the best vice president America's ever had" and a "lion of American history," Obama gave his White House partner the surprise award in an emotional ceremony, initially billed as a farewell.

After extolling the job that Biden has done, Obama ended it with the unexpected news that he was giving the vice president the nation's highest civilian honor, with distinction — a designation most recently given to President Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II and Gen. Colin Powell.

"To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully," Obama said.

snip//

Throughout the ceremony it was evident not just how close the two men were but how close their families and staffs had become, and Obama said his "family is honored to call ourselves honorary Bidens."

https://www.npr.org/2017/01/12/509545778/in-surprise-send-off-president-obama-awards-biden-presidential-medal-of-freedom

Transcript of President Obama's speech..

He fought to make college more affordable and revitalized American manufacturing, as the head of our middle-class taskforce. He suited up for Our Cancer Moonshot and giving hope to millions of Americans touched by this disease.

He led our efforts to combat gun violence. And he rooted out any possible misappropriations that might’ve occurred. And as a consequence, the recovery act worked as well as just about any large- scale stimulus project has ever worked in this country. He visited college after college and made friends with Lady Gaga…

Behind the scenes, Joe’s candid honest council has made me a better president and a better commander in chief. From the Situation Room, to our weekly lunches, to our huddles after everybody else has cleared out of the room, he’s been unafraid to give it to me straight, even if we disagree.

In fact, especially, when we disagree. And all of this makes, in my belief, the finest vice president we have ever seen. And I also think he has been a lion of American history.
The best part is, he’s no where close to finished. In the years ahead as a citizen, he will continue to build on that legacy internationally and domestically. He’s got a voice of vision and reason and optimism and love for people and we’re gonna need that — that spirit and that vision as we continue to try to make our world safer and to make sure that everybody’s got a fair shot in this country.

snip//

So all told, that’s a pretty remarkable legacy, an amazing career in public service. It is, as Joe once said, “a big deal.”

Much More..

when people see Biden they think more of experience which is the exact same reason Obama picked him in the first place.

serving in the Obama admin helped him by becoming a more familiar figure and strengthening what was considered already positive about him.

...and from that standpoint, he's a little behind the curve. Could I look up past statements of his? Sure, but that's the past. I want to know where he is now. Should I believe his anti-legalization statement from a few years ago? How about when he said he had no empathy for young people who are struggling?

I'm not asking him to publicly flog himself...just have a better website with solid positions on it. Inspirational language doesn't cut it for me. It may be enough for you right now and that's fine...but this is why I'm still undecided.

Marijuana sellers and users will be in legal no-man's land, free from state prosecution but subject to federal prosecution. Marijuana businesses have trouble getting financial services because it's against federal law to knowingly do business with drug dealers.

It may not be an important issue to you, but it is to a lot of people. Even 54% of Republicans support it. If we had a supportive President, it's actually more likely to happen than a lot of other things on the Democratic wishlist.

The feds have to wait for the states, even as it has national bipartisan support and states across the nation are doing it despite federal barriers but it isn't national because the feds can't do it.

And as near as I can tell, you have disqualified all candidates not named Joe Biden, because only Joe Biden can win. So there is actually only one issue for you, and that is: Is the candidate's name Joe Biden? If they can't give an unqualified yes, then you won't vote for them. Fortunately, we do have a candidate named Joe Biden, so you don't have to sit this one out.

Will be an act of God if we take the Senate. I don't care about this issue....more concerned with decriminalization...keep folks out of jail. There are more important issues for me. But the truth is the first two years of a Democratic presidentl will involve stopping the GOP not getting much through unless we take the senate. Even judges will be difficult ...probably impossible. Consider that Gay marriage laws. Began in the states. And this is not a voting issue for me. I disagreed with Obama about trade but I still supported him in the primary. The idea that you look for issues to knock out a candidate seems foolish to me, All these political issues people are so concerned which may or may not be possible are simply ideas. Let's choose a nominee who can win and see what happens. I would support any democratic nominee in the general. I just think Biden is the one who can win, and I like the guy,

I just think Biden should take a stand on this. There are good reasons to do so, such as winning votes, which you say is the only thing you care about.

You are the one who seems to want to knock out other candidates no matter what they do, while you'll give Biden a pass no matter what he does.

AFGHANISTAN
In Afghanistan, we will work with the NATO-led coalition of partners to bolster the democratically-elected government as it assumes a primary role in tackling terrorism, forges a more secure future for the country, and safeguards advances, like securing women’s rights. Democrats will continue to push for an Afghan-led peace process and press both Afghanistan and Pakistan to deny terrorists sanctuary on either side of the border. We support President Obama’s decision to maintain a limited troop presence in Afghanistan into 2017 and ensure that Afghanistan never again serves as a haven for terrorists to plan and launch attacks on our homeland.

He specifically advised against this move and Obama didn't follow his lead. And now it's 2019 with no end in sight and the situation is worsening.

I'll be curious as we move forward if he doesn't "evolve" on this issue.

CLOSING GUANTÁNAMO BAY
The Democratic Party remains committed to closing the detention facility at Guantánamo Bay and ending indefinite detention without trial or conviction. Keeping the facility open is a blemish on our record, serves as a recruiting tool for extremists, and undermines our standing in the world.

I wonder if he means this, or if he means what Obama did which is to move Guantanamo detainees to the mainland and intending to keep some of them indefinitely, despite how their trials may result.

ASIA-PACIFIC
From the Asia Pacific to the Indian Ocean, we will deepen our relationships in the region with Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. We will honor our historic commitment to Japan. We will continue to invest in a long-term strategic partnership with India—the world’s largest democracy, a nation of great diversity, and an important Pacific power. We will build on the historic opening with Burma and advocate for greater human rights protections and national reconciliation among Burma’s many different ethnic groups. We will help Pakistan stabilize its polity and build an effective relationship with the predominantly young population of this strategically located, nuclear-armed country. We will also work with our allies and partners to fortify regional institutions and norms as well as protect freedom of the seas in the South China Sea.

Democrats will push back against North Korean aggression and press China to play by the rules. We will stand up to Beijing on unfair trade practices, currency manipulation, censorship of the internet, piracy, and cyberattacks. And we will look for areas of cooperation, including on combatting climate change and nuclear proliferation. We will promote greater respect for human rights, including the rights of Tibetans. We are committed to a “One China” policy and the Taiwan Relations Act and will continue to support a peaceful resolution of Cross-Strait issues that is consistent with the wishes and best interests of the people of Taiwan.

Interesting that there is no mention of TPP in this. Presuming he were to get elected in 2020, it wouldn't be too late to try to get "back in" to the deal. The remaining nations have moved forward and there would be an opening to re-enter this deal. This would definitely distinguish himself from other democrats in the primary.

The lack of policy specifics from someone who has run as many times as he has, and who has been in politics for as long as he has is insulting. His entire reason for doing this and even his biggest supporters basis for supporting him seems to be "Hey, it's me. You know me. I'm that guy who hung out with that guy you like" at best and "Let's get back to the moderate, old white guy." at worst.

And again, I'm not even saying that we can't run a moderate or whatever. I don't like Beto either but at least he represents SOME vision of the future rather than wistful nostalgia.
